Hey guys, I recently bought a complete lower off the EE and with recent life stuff calming down I finally pulled it out of the safe and went over it really well.

Well the trigger guard had been installed backwards so the spring release portion is on the roll pin side and well the previous owner tapped the roll pin in half way on the wrong side:-(

So in the end I have to remove this roll pin by pulling it out? I have been planning on ceracoating a upper/lower and with the mess that's been made of this one I now have the prefect paintable piece.

I was pissed off last night and took a drill bit to it but that didn't help much. Would a small exractor bit work? Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Go buy a "roll pin punch"

I've got more than my share of experience with broken roll pins. It's $10 and could save you hours of cursing in the long run, crappy tire sells them as an example.

I'm not an AR guy yet so I'm not familiar with the trigger guard, if you have to actually pull it out I would add some penetrating fluid.

If you have to drill it out, go with a tungsten carbide bit, possibly on a dremel. I've used cobalt bits and all sorts of other stuff on roll pins and I just got pissed off, they can work but what a nightmare.

Hmm... What a pain in the butt roll pins can be... I'm glad you have a roll pin set, I didn't the first time I tried to remove a roll pin. I broke a punch off in one side, my friend said "you don't know what you're doing". Then broke a punch in the other side... I've since learned from that stupid mistake, lol.

Those dremel bits are $25 each and don't like too much sideways pressure but they will cut through roll pin steel very easily. I've done it on two pins now. Most recently, We cut out one of the inner rolls of material and then soaked in PB blaster for 3 days, though I'm sure it didn't need that long.

I just called someone and they said if you need to, you can use penetrating fluid, a significantly hardened bolt extractor and a slide hammer.

Sorry if this info isn't what you need, I just really hate roll pins!

Thanks for the tips you guys, I have some penetrating fluid on it now. Ill see what dremmel bits I have. I think some creative work will get it out I am also thinking of just cutting the trigger guard then knock it out. Wish me luck!
