Build a rifle.

Rem 700 in 6.5-284 (maybe a bit tight for short action but might work) 24" #3 contour barrel stainless, hs precsion sporter stock in brown and black, talley rings and bases Leupold mark 4 4.5-14 x 50 long range scope with side focus and mil dot reticle and flip up caps.

Maybe even just plain old .284 win would be a good choice.
I would have picked .257 roberts AI but that was picked several times.

here is my go at it
if and only if price doesnt count

bushmaster A3 believe its a 14.5" barrel
sights the eotech 552.A65/1
plus this would definatly be needed for the sights to work
ATN night cougar 4th gen NV weapons bino
definatly a surefire FA762SS suppresor
the gun would need to be rebarreled and chambered into a.........

300 whisper shooting a 200grn tsx
maybe 12 grns of H110
and a CCI small rifle primer
should produce approx 1010-1020fps
look out MONSTER whitetail

a Ruger M77 Mark II Frontier in Target Grey in .338 Federal - mainly because this is the only rifle Ruger offers with both a medium contour barrel in their awesome target grey stainless.
id chuck the stock, unscrew the 1/4 rib, have a stainless butterknife bolt handle installed. id have a full-length charcoal laminate Mannlicher styled stock custom made for it, have a smith install a hooded front sight/muzzle cap and quality rear ghost ring.

what would it end up as?
basically, a 'modernized' Mannlicher carbine thats impervious to weather, in a pretty cool new cartridge. the .338 Federal is my beloved .308 necked up to a .338 bullet.

no scope, although the provision for mounting a traditional mount or scout mount scope is right there. i suppose if i had to choose a scope it would be a low fixed power, 4x, with something like a German #1 or #4 type reticle.

Hmmm...... A nice lightweight "stalking rifle", say in 6.5x54 or 6.5x53, Turkish walnut stock with a schnabel forend, hand-rubbed oil finish, Mannlicher-Schönauer action (or maybe a Krag), swamped barrel (octagonal-round), with proper open sights and a side mount…

Next Sunday afternoon, probably something different.

So far the only "fancy" gun mentioned. Fluting, teflon, skeletonizing, etc. are great and all for a utilitarian gun, but I thought you were dreaming about what could be, not what can be for a couple of $.

Personally, I would be drooling daily over an H&H double in any calibre, or, if I can not have that, a LH model 70 with a full length tapered, stainless, octagonal barrel, dreamy wood in the feaather weight style, and a schmidt and bender scope. Likely in 257AI or the like (why can't I have a 7x57?).

Brno 601 action with pop up peep sight

Heym or PacNor barrel with front sight added

Bed the action in the factory stock, free float the barrel, and glass in mercury recoil reducers in the forestock and butt. Add a decelerator pad.

Lapped Talley QD rings holding a Leupold 1.5-5x20

Chambered in 10.57 Maverick

Rifle weighs 10 lbs

For an exotic/futuristic rifle;

Start with a Stainless action of some sort, Sako Vixen style lets say, but this action is made of graphite, carbon and Titanium shanks laminated for superior strength and light weight.

now throw on a futuristic barrel constructed from graphite, carbon and in-compasses a titanium barrel sleeve, so it weighs next to nothing. 23" or maybe 24"

The trigger can be an electric trigger, once the safety is off just brush your finger on the trigger and electric current in your body sets it off, no pulling no creeping, no setting. The electricity for the trigger itself is from the motion of carrying the rifle much like a wrist watch.

Add a fully adjustable skeltonized laminate stock, with ammo slots in the butt that hold the cases in place.

Top it off with a Zeiss Victory Diarange scope, just for the hell of it,

and it can be chambered in the magnificent 25-300RCM (whenever someone gets around to developing it).

Oh ya, and it's only made in Canada, and we can call it a COOEY. LOL

Hey now, that's about as exotic/futuristic I could (imagine) come up with in five minutes.

I am divided here, with a varminter being my main desire right now, but with two options.

Option 1, Coyote rifle, calling /truck gun.
All matte stainless
CRF Winchester Action, detachable mag
Shilen or Pac nor 22"medium contour tube in 221 Fireball
Leupold VX III 4-12x40mm, set in leupold MKII bases and rings
Classic profiled grey laminate stock

Option 2, Long range gopher eradicator/coyote gun
matte stainless
Put it on a savage action, i will cook barrels and might as well swap em out myself

28" heavy fluted premium barrel, 1-9 twist, 22-243 middlestead
Not sure what i would have for glass, but it would be pricey, and have target knobs.

What would I build??

Stiller Viper
Kreiger 6BR
Borden Stock
Kelby Rings
Boosted 36X scope

Or....

Kelbly Grizzly Action
M24 Contour 26" in 308 match chamber
McMillan A5
S&B 5-25x56mm

I did what you are thinking of doing but I chose a Rem 700 stainless long action and chambered it in 8X57. It has a medium weight stainless 22" Lija barrel and an HS Persision stock. It is 8lbs 2oz, and could have been lighter but it is ballanced perfectly and the weight does'nt bother me. It is my favorite gun and very very accurate. Go for it.
