Tactical single-shot haha. It's pretty absurd but something I've wanted for a long time and haven't ever seen. So I'm building one. Based off of this $200 Armed Sash Shorty I bought from Westrifle:

Goals:
1) light-weight, hopefully around 5lbs
2) accurate sights
3) mounted flashlight
4) fits in a hiking pack
5) looks cool

I've purchased the gun, Mesa Tactical 870 stock adapter, a chinese AR forend, and a Minimalist stock. I've started working on mating the receiver and stock adapter and will update with pics shortly.

One and done? Whew, thats putting a lot of pressure on yourself if you actually ever need to use this. Hope you're a better shot than me! Interesting thought though, hope you have fun with it.

So here's how the receiver and adapter mate up. Just to get them to mate up, I needed to mill a hole through the adapter for the "tail" of receiver. I also had to bend the tail to go where I needed it to go (into the stock tube). The recessed hole in the adapter needed to be enlarged, and a new bolt with the proper threading for the receiver.

The insides ain't pretty at this point, but I'm going to smooth everything out and repaint the adapter when I've got everything fitted. I'm pretty limited on tools, but I have a dremel with some end mill bits...

So the "tail" of the receiver has two functions: to secure and tension the hammer spring, and to secure the back of the trigger guard. Originally I was going to keep the tail inside the stock tube of the adapter, but I would have had to remove too much material from around the attachment point to allow clearance for the spring. I've cut the tail short, drilled and tapped a hole inside the adapter to tension the hammer spring, and drilled an access hole in the top of the adapter for adjustment and disassembly.

Pulling the trigger guard back is how you open the action. I've cut and reformed the trigger guard so that the stock adapter can retain the trigger guard and allow it to move back and forth. The stock adapter trigger area also had to be shaped for this and to provide better access to the trigger itself. I also had to tap the grip hole in the stock adapter for a larger screw since there was no longer a place for the included nut.

Here it is mocked up with another stock I have. Probably keeping the Hogue grip. This is where I'm at currently and still lots of work to do....

Has anyone ever pinned a stock before? I've heard of people epoxying them in place. I was thinking of putting a large screw or bolt through the back of the buffer tube and red loctite or striping the head off to make it permanent. That way I should be over the minimum length with stock on or off and still have an adjustable stock.

Why not add spacers at the back end to make the butt pad longer.
