Doing a lefty for wife. Want to tame the already tame recoil down a bit more. Was looking at precision armaments m4-72 for 5.56 but guy told me it wouldn't be very pleasant on a 12.5 barrel because of back angled slots. Any Input is welcome.... Best brake for 12.5. Some suggested vg-6. Just want to reduce flip and keep her on target. When she is shooting my 10.5 with a pig it climbs on follow up shots. I know technique will fix this also but want to make it as pleasant as possible

My wife does not like muzzle brakes & I have seen them affect her shooting, flinching when shots are fired.

They are just too loud & IMHO unnecessary on a 223 as the recoil reduction is ruined by the blast.

YMMV...

Cheers
Jay

I like the VG6 Epsilon. I have it on my 11.5" barrel. It has a flash suppression portion but there is a little bit of flash still but the more you shoot the more you don't really notice it. The Gamma is probably not as good on a shorter barrel AR as it won't hide any flash.

The more effective the muzzle brake, the more blast your wife will endure. I would not suggest a brake on an SBR. What if you re-barreled to a 14" or 16" and then used a muzzle brake. The additional length and weight would help with muzzle flip and move the brake forward so that your wife is more out of the blast zone.

Linear brake, less efficient but blast is still directed forward

Works well to mitigate blast but It will give you a noticeable jump in recoil, I tried it on my 10.3" and found it was tough to do rapid shots on target, I put on a strike industries J-comp v2 and it works very well and is not overly loud, and no gasses come back and hit you

Want something on there. Based on what guy at Lgs said I'm leaning toward vg6 epsilon. She's not scared of noise she wants to shoot faster and more accurate follow-ups and we are pretty much always alone at outdoor range so I don't care what people to the side think of it

Only problem now is that there doesn't seem to be any around. Few places carry but all out of stock

so you noticed an increase in recoil with a linear brake vs no brake at all? I have only noticed a decrease in recoil when comparing no brake to a linear, weird

it is not the people to the side that are the issue on a sbr, it is the shooter themselves that gets part of the blast the more effective the brake is

No sorry, I went from a single port brake on the 10.3" which worked very well but nearly concussed me, switched to the linear and the recoil made it hard to stay on target, so went with the SI J-comp v2 and it's a very happy medium between noise and recoil reduction

There are double port brakes that have an exterior "can" that is threaded onto the brake. It is completely open on the front so acts as a blast shield.

I thought that concept would work very nicely but haven't gotten around to trying it.

Might give some recoil relief without the noise????

I just put an SBI hex brake on my Tavor. It does reduce muzzle rise but is noticeably louder. It does not blow any gasses back at me. The muzzle on a TAR21 probably isn't much farther away than that on a short AR. It was inexpensive and Canadian made if that matters to you.

I just fitted a Lantac Dragon - it was either it or a VG6 Epsilon but I couldn't find one for sale in Canada

I`m very happy with the Dragon, it does what it says on the tin - more controlled recoil but it is quite a bit louder

My lantac reduces recoil significantly (no surprise) I would reccomend it.
My friend got the vg6 epsilon. Much less flash on that one and also significant reduction in muzzle climb.
Either are excellent choices. AAC makes a nice one also... my other two friends have them. Drastically improved their shooting.
No one in my group wants to be a copycat but there's only so many options. Perhaps earplugs inside muffs or better hearing protection will help with her flinch? None of these options have drastic flash from the operators end.

I took my wife out shooting for the first time a couple months ago. She's a pretty small lady, but she shot a C8 uppers (very lightweight, 14.5 barrel) and had no issues with recoil or flinching of any type.
