What made you rekindle that thread Mike?
Funny Timing though...I have a guy discing two acres right now for Corn... none of the farmers are planting corn this year so I am departing from my traditional food plots a little bit this year.

I've often wondered why tree stands have never really caught on here in the west.

I've heard they're very effective - apperently our deer haven't learned the value of 'looking up' yet :)

LOL, I hunted deer in New Jersey one year & was totally surprised to see all the deer looking up at me in my tree stand 20ft off the ground. Didn't really make much difference as they still came within bow range. Deer are NOT stupid creatures & can get educated very quickly. Deer in populated areas can be some of the toughest deer to hunt.

George

PS Would food plots be considered "baiting"

How are these shacks holding up after two seasons? I was in something similar this past season in Manitoba and found that the windows iced up in the mornings. Have you had that happen and what did you do? The shack I was in had a propane heater and it took about 10 mins to see out.

Those shacks look pretty tough, should last for years. The ones built we lately are fairly remote so the only materials we have are nails, axes, chainsaws and the wood that's around us. These are usually good for a year or two all depending on the wood we used, we will use burlap if available to mask scent.
