Build it and they will come!

When I built my last one last August I framed the walls, covered them with tin roofing, assembled them at home(with clamps)..to make sure everything fit...made the roof trusses to fit, then packed the whole thing over to the site (dissasembled) and set it on top of a 16 foot high stand ..wall by wall . I used an 8 foot step ladder and a small beam on top of the stand as a derrick to haul up the wall sections, with a block and tackle .
 Sometimes it is easier to put up the inside wall panels before the outer skin and insulation is applied...more room to manipulate the inside panels, ie. through the wall studding .
My "SwatShack"(I like that  ) is 8' x 8' with a gabled roof sitting on 6' walls .The floor , walls and ceiling are insulated with fiberglass batts . I welded up a small wood burning stove(much better than propane as propane gives off lots of condensation causing moisture .)
Access is through a trap-door in the floor . Windows (swing up and in) on all 4 sides . I made a small folding, portable shooting bench that can be clamped, tightly, to any window sill .With a variety of grain-filled sand bags it makes for a very stable shooting platform .
This summer after the fields are cut(started yesterday) I plan on enclosing/weather proofing the whole stand with Dryer felt from the paper mill , plus build better stairs (2 sets).
Hopefully, this year will get a shot at Mr. Big ...but while waiting for him to make an appearance, I will wait in total comfort :)

Well I went and over seeded a bunch more annuals this morning.... this seeding will be ready in mid October... I like to spread the annuals out so they don't all mature at the same time
About 20 acres of perrenials is up and things are greening nicely... the seeding from two weeks ago is going strong and I can see turnip and millet everywhere :D
Toomer and I framed another Wack Shack today... 1 and 1/2 hours... nice.
Here's some pics... I'm getting excited about this project...

Looks like it will be a prime .270 spot by October.....I'm sure you'll be seeing signs of deer visiting well before then though...if not already.....

One question...I thought Hydro Right of ways were considered public property?
I say that because I have seen many snowmobile trails folow these lines ...or are they only considered public when on crown land ?

Also is that a road in that picture ?

Hydro lines are never public... in the north they are hydro property or the crown and in the south they are private property owned by the landowner and hydro only has an easment for maintenance.
And it is all Shotgun, Archery and Muzzle Loader only for Deer... great for sniping coyotes with the rifle though... no caliber restriction here
and yes that is a road ... I took the shot from the top of the hill on one property across the road looking down to antoher property... we hunt and control 600 acres in thi area with three roads intersecting the four properties.

Holy crap big red, your tower shack is almoste as big as my ice fishing shack...I think you will really be comfy :) But the price tag must be horrible if you want to spread those puppies all over your hunting ground  :?: :!:

I have High Friends in Places... or is that Friends in High Places :?
Whatever... the Shack is 15 feet tall...
Gonna work on Shack number two tomorrow :)

Good Gravy.

That's quite the impressive bit of hunting articecture there. You'll be as snug as a well armed bug in a rug! :)

I will defintitely get pictures of us Standing up the next one... an engineering Marvel without a doubt... pulled that thing upright with a one inch rope

Well we got the stairs and the windows on ... the windows swing out from the bottom... silently
Just gotta put the shingles on the roof and rolls hingle on the outside... remove the braces after the guy-wires are installed....
