Build your own M1 Carbine?

Marstar's list is out of date. It's tough to do. IF you can find a receiver, easiest is to buy an early Plainfield or Iver Johnson and swap the parts over as they were all USGI except the receiver.

Hey, that's what I'm here for... err... well actually it's so I can brown-nose Stevo and Badgerdog... LOL.

LOL, you're probably faking that too, like your milsurp knowledge.:p ;)

The most difficult part will be finding a longer than 18.5" barrel. Otherwise you're building a restricted rifle. You'd need a barrel vise and action wrench and headspace guages to install the barrel. If you can find one.
You won't save any money building one from parts either.

There is a fellw on the EE forums who has entire parts kits minus the reciever.

That was aacollectible. A great guy to deal with for m1 and m1 carbine parts. I know he has some parts, but the kits were pretty much snapped-up. http://www.tradeexcanada.com/tradeexcanada.com_files/Page1025.htm

I have build up four m1 carbines. Pretty easy with the correct wrench and a good bench vice.

its NOT worth buiding an m1 carbine they are cheaper/easier to buy complete

+1 - there's a nice Saginaw for $375 in the EE right now with 2 position WW2 flip sight. Try and build it that cheap - I dare ya!

That's what I did. I lucked out on an Iver Johnson non restricted for super cheap on the EE.

The bolt is USGI and I'm finding more parts everyday.

It shoots consistant 3" groups at 100 all day. Couldn't be happier with my lil' project gun.

How hard could it be Right.??? I was looking at Marstar rifle parts list and it look like they had every thing you'd need to put 1 together, part wise anyways.

Anybody out there tried this, can it be done with out too much trouble???
why not just buy one of mine

Which one would you stay away from? The Universal,Plainfield,or the Iver Johnson.
I only saw two other [5 all together] carbines on the EE,an ex-west German one and the other one didn't say what it was

All three are the same company that underwent name changes throughout its life. Plainfield is earliest.

Just make sure whatever you get, it's a cast receiver with the rest being USGI parts, otherwise you're no further ahead!

DO NOT buy a universal usgi parts do not fit the later ones were esp crappy!

planesfields are OK as they use many GI parts

best is a USGI through

Of all the commercial carbines (if I were forced at knifepoint to buy one) I would avoid the Universals. I know some people have had no probs, but the list of people who have far exceeds those who haven't.

I quite love the M1 Carbine, its hard not to have a lot of them and still want more.

Much like a cracker jacks box, its fun to get a new one and then open it up and see whats all on the inside for parts.
