building a 357 rifle ? possible 357 Maximum

I know I am 20-30yrs behind but all those shooters that had them are getting to the age that they might part ways with them.. I dwell in the old stuff Ballards, Stevens, Hepburns Highwalls

I am looking to find something for a build maybe someone had a dream years ago to build something on a old action sitting in the drawer??
I know there is a bunch of gun fondlers out there that just buy to hold ,tell stories and stroke the barrels with a oil rag but i want to drag some old rifle out of hiding and shoot it.

In all seriousness, I would ask on the ASSRA Forum. There is a pretty active population of 200yd, hind legs shooters (Schuetzen) (sp?), guys around the Calgary/mid Alberta area that sometimes post their accomplishments on that site. My two guesses are that if anyone is going to have or know who has, what you are looking for, it is liable to be those lot, and my second guess is that you should expect it to cost you a bunch, to get something worth using!

Last decent (and reasonably priced) Win High Wall action I saw and regret passing on, was at a Moose Jaw gun show in the late 1990's, for $400. Gone by the time I had my regrets... LOL! Saw an old fella at an Edmonton show early 2000's, with a Stevens 44 1/2 switch barrel rig that he wanted $850 for, had a rimfire barrel, a Hornet barrel, and a (IIRC)32-20 barrel with. Been to a lot of shows and seen either "Original Patina" guns that should still have had the rope that was used to drag it the full length of the Oregon trail (ie:junk!) or that had been done over by some slob with a 10 hp buffer, until all the pits and most of the markings were melted off, before they were hot blued (also junk).

I am on ASSRA , Alberta Outdoorsmen forum, Shiloh Forum, Cast Bullet Assoc......I guess the next step is bid on one off of Gunbroker and pay the fees to get it into Canada

I will moth ball it until I find the right action

Henry makes a single shot in 357 mag. They also make that rifle in 30-30 and 308 so I see no reason why you couldn't get one reamed to 357max?

But have you actually Asked there, rather than watching for stuff to come up?

I'd still lay my money on that being the best odds.

Sorta like 'wishing' you could get a date with the 'hot chick' vs. 'asking' the hot chick to go out on a date. Different things, with different results!

Henry...yes, make a very nice rifle. Rossi make a 92 in 357. I think 357 has been over looked as a small, medium hunting round. Nice to reload...and good value per shot.

Built one on a thick wall small martini in 357 Max a few years ago .Fun lil rifle .Feeds and ejects as it should
