So,...I scrounged a reciever up from the weekend show...
Where's the best place to source parts for this bird from ?
It's not gonna be cheep, but it's sure as hell going to be fun
Think I'll get new wood from Boyd's.....once I have the main pieces figured out,and go from there... advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers..R..

A z t e c h A r m ou ry is a good place for parts, op rod included last I looked. M a r s t a r also has some of the smaller bits on sale from time to time.
There's also some good sellers on CGN EE, look up zdragunov

Buy a couple of receivers . They're cheap enough and who's to say there isn't a trove of parts, somewhere out there that will surface. Neat paper weight at least. :)

Grizz

OK - stupid question, but I haven't seen/heard of anyone doing this. The BM-59 is a prohib, by name. Many BM-59's were however built up on PB Garand receivers, is there anything that anyone can think of that would stop someone from building a BM-59 "ish" rifle on a Garand receiver, from scratch. After all, the receiver is a Garand and has never been full auto, and the remainder is simply a collection of (admittedly, rare, expensive) parts. No one I've seen has done this - thoughts?

There’s a “non-restricted” BM59 clone made on a garand receiver sitting at Seba arms for sale. It’s been done before..

You can find a few good parts on eBay right now, Para Variation folding stocks, Para NOS gas cylinder c/w bipod, Para grenade launcher, op rods, and even the trigger group. You just need $$$$$
I think the mags are close to unobtainium as well. Cool but expensive project.

Why not just buy an M14 type, ie M1A or M305 unless you really want a BM59'ish clone.

just remember you'll need the tools to do the job.

barrel vise, action wrench, headspace guages and reamer for a brand new barrel.
also you may have to parkerize older parts.

better to let someone install the barrel and ream it while verifying the headspace.

once i get my house back in order i'm gonna sell all the stuff i have left over.

I have a brand new Springfield Armory barrel chambered in 3006 currently for sale if you are interested.

Thanks everyone, this is going to take some time to do,as parts are super expensive...but worth it! Did BMB make barrels too,or use US mfg ??..

Yes BMB made barrels and bolts. Breda also supplied Beretta with receivers as well.

+++1 for everyone recommending Nick - he may have parts as well (more than likely) I have had 6 guns go through his shop and have had exactly zero problems. He does amazing work.

Post an ad in the EE - you see M1 parts kits and abandoned projects in there all the time

Look up dupage trading in the USA for your stock - I bought 4 M1 stocks from this guy (he won't ship to Canada last I spoke, so you will have to get creative) https://www.dupagetrading.com/product-category/new-m1-stock-sets/ .... these are far superior to the Boyd's stocks, being from an earlier pattern they are slimmer in the wrist and feel much less like a club ;)

Look for your BM-59 parts on ebay - I bought an M1 trigger group/guard from some guy in Italy ... when it got here it was actually a BM-59 group/guard. Sorry - it went on the EE years ago. Sarco also carries BM-59 part kits ... http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/bm59partsset.aspx ... if you want the magazine it would have to go through an importer, get pinned and verified ...

the barrel is easy, just buy a new criterion. or on the EE, they show up all the time (though I have had really bad luck with used barrels, they are not still attached to a gun for a reason. find out what that reason is before you buy)
