Does anyone out there know if there are businesses out there that sell gun parts to build your own rifle? Is this legal to do in Canada? Thanks for any asistance.

you can purchase a registered receiver and then after that as long as you comply to the rules and regs regarding overall length, barrel restrictions etc. I am presuming you are wanting to build a bolt action or similar rifle.

Check out the exchange forum from time to time. I just picked up a 98 mauser reciever for a project I'm working on, and was lucky enought to have a .308 barrel newly fitted.

You could also pick up a cheap bubbah Lee-Enfield off of the exchange forum and and either rebarrel it or have it reamed to something else interesting in it's calibre range.

RIO: From your question ,it sounds like you are maybe new to guns. If this is correct, be aware that you can not just assemble a gun from parts , like a bicycle and end up with a safe firearm. There are , skills and special tools that are required, to construct a safe firearm. The best way to start is to buy an inexpensive rifle , then refinish or replace the stock , then refinish or have someone refinish or reblue the metal. But no matter what you do, it all costs money and usually building a gun is not the cheapest way to go.

More info please.

If all you want is a hunting rifle, buy one of the many well priced factory rifles. You cannot build one for even close to the same money.

Wanting something special or competitive, the sky's the limit both for options and budget. Most will start with a factory rifle which will act as a donor and sell off stuff they don't want. Others will go and get a custom action and go from there.

If looking to build a basement naughty toy, this is not the place for you.

Just as almost everyone has said or hinted at...building a rifle will not be cheap. On the other hand, you will get the enjoyment of building and owning YOUR rifle not something off the rack. For hunting purposes, there are plenty of good factory rifles that will certainly be a lot cheaper new or used.

If you want to build a special rifle for yourself, consider what kind of action you like, that the purpose will be(say for the range with a heavy barrel or whatever) and consider buying a used rifle(whole) and change parts over time to custom it for yourself.
