Finally getting around to building the solution to a pet peeve of mine regarding the CZ 858's hidious plastic chipboard furnature. Figured at least a few of you would be interested in the build, so I took some pics. Only part of the way through so far. This is the result of about 8 hours of work on my benchtop mill and lots of patience with a sheet of sandpaper to get stuff to fit.
Started yesterday by gluing up some wood and getting the outlines marked. I ditched the 858 style stock and am creating one to look more like a proper AK-47.
Heres the progess as of now. Upper handguard and pistol grip are fitted and awaiting final sanding. Stock is shaped, but still needs work, and lower handguard is still untouched.
Enjoy the pics.
Laying out the outlines. (Yesterday)
Patterns marked, wood glued. (This morning)
Rough cuts:
Marking for 2nd stage cuts.
Semi-finished product. Pistol grip and upper handguard are shaped and assembled. Ready for final sanding and staining.
Upper Handguard
Pistol grip and stock. (Wooden stock is just lying on top of folding stock. Shaping is complete, but it needs to be drilled for the stock's bolt.

Must be a byproduct of the late night posting.
