Building AK-47 furnature for an 858.

Stuck on that part. It will not be too hard once I can get the stupid folding stock off. I am completley stuck, and I have used all the tricks I know to do it.

The bolt to remove the stock is seized worse then I have ever seen a bolt seized before. I have already ruined a screwdriver, counterboring bolt removing kit, and an adjustable wrench trying to get it out. Next step is drilling, but that will take time in order to not ruin the threading.

Will get back to you all in a few days when I sort this out, and then I can start working on mounting the stock.

Cheers.

Tried that, but the bolt head was too stripped by the previous owner who had the stock installed. This was bought used and for a good price, so it is not a huge issue.

Now thats a solid idea. I like that kind of thinking.

Just sent an email off to a friend of mine who specializes in classic car repair. I dont have access to welding equipment, as woodworking is my forte, but he should be able to help me out with that.

Still waiting on my welder buddy to come through with the T bar.

I moved on and selected a nice stain (Gunstock) to go with the rifle's colour. It should be a nice redhead of an AK when it is all done.

The bottom one is the stained one.

Just to give you an idea what it will look like.

I've had good success with torque drivers for heavy stripped head bolts like that. It's basically a super heavy hardened screw driver head fitten inside a chisel body. It has a helical set of grooves inside it so when you hit it with a hammer the outer chisel sleeve forces the driver head to rotate. Works really well at breaking things free, but also is a bit of a bull on small or weak items.

They're called torque screwdrivers or just torque drivers. Very handy to have when you just can't get a grip and loosen it.

P.S. Gun is looking very nice! That looks like a nice backburner project for when the others are stalled :)

While you wait, hit it with PB blaster in the threads. Whack it once in a while and reapply. This stuff works great when I'm working on 4x4s or anything with threads that is seized.

This looks really awesome! I would be happy to pay at least $100 when I get my 858 to get this furniture. Have you thought about furniture before?

I am thinking about building more, but that will come after I complete my set. That way, I can use my 3-D Router Duplicator that I am nearly done building. It will help me build a few more of these in a reasonable amount of time.

If you guys like it, just PM me saying your interested. If I get enough response, I will just pony up and become a dealer and sell some of them here on gunnutz.

I will look into that. Sounds like another lead.

Have you thought about furniture before?

Took four years of furniture making during high school, finished with a tough teacher with no mark lower then 95% each year. I have done my fair share of building furnature. Now that I have some work experience under my belt, I am getting more into woodworking now, and building up my collection of machines.

:D I actually meant selling gun furniture (effective communication fail). The stuff you are doing is pretty cool. I went to a tech school so I am familiar with wood working. I am possibly going to be taking a part time college course in either Autocad or CAD/CAM with the intention of designing/manufacturing gun accessories.

They are also called Impact Drivers.

Due to the huge response already from people interested in getting these made, I am currently in talks with Greentips over how to become a CGN Dealer.

Just thought you all ought to know. :D
