Since I'm allways short on cash and want to buy AR before any futureanti-gun goverment bans them, I'm thinking of building AR, never built one so I don't
know if I can even built one legally. Lower reciever is the registred part if I understand correctly and then what do I have to tell CFC
the barrel length and caliber?
Enlighten me on legal procedure when building AR?

thanx.

Don't have to tell them anything IMO. If you bought a lower receiver thats registered to your name, you're free to work on it at your leisure.

I think technically you're supposed to re-register it when you put the upper on it, but there is no requirement IMO since you may own 10 uppers and none of them are specifically for that lower.

If you buy a lower you will get a registration certificate that says "receiver only" or words to that effect. You can keep it that way forever if you like, or you can call in with calibre and barrel details when you finish an upper and have the registration reflect a completed rifle.

Hmmm just to add a question, is the 'receiver only' lower subjected to the same storage laws as a completed firearm?
Trigger lock a stripped lower in my gun cabinet?

Technically yes; however I'd like to think that the authorities wouldn't give you any grief for not trigger locking a stripped lower. I wouldn't hold my breath on this though, so lock it to be safe.

Generally the part with the serial # is the considered the firearm and usually treated as such when it comes to gun laws.

However Im not a legal analyst. May want to refer direct to RCMP to be sure.

i my self have gone this way and it is quite easy.
you have to go thru the same process and any other res class firearm, transfer ect...
when asked why i was buying this "firearm" i said my intrest was to build it. the cfo was happy with that. i would recomend that if ur moving it use a cable lock thru the magwell.
as that will "prevent" the addition of an upper. but once u have a LPK in then you'll need to trigger lock it.
i have gotten the bug to build another.

Trigger locks on AR's are usless, no need to break the lock...just push the pin for gaurd out.

Mag well locks and cable locks are completely acceptable as well though
