Hey guys,

I was wondering the best place to price parts for a complete AR15 build.

What can be ordered from the US?

Cheers

I get a lot of small parts from Brownells. The Brownells website will let you filter by exportable parts. Some manufactures don't have export permits, some things you'll need more paper work for.
For simplicity I'd get major components from Canadian dealers to skip the paperwork. I'm thinking about things like receivers, and barrels.

OSTS, Questar and Wolverine would be great places to start your search.
What can be ordered from the US is a bit of a quagmire, as some parts are GTG while others are ITAR controlled. If you want to go that route, I'd recommend Brownells.

"...What can be ordered from the US?..." You can order anything but you won't get it. AR parts are restricted for export.
"...build out..." You don't build out. You just build.

I got a lot of mine from questar, and wolverine. Wolverine has a ton of small parts as well as a great selection of barrels and other components.

If you're looking to get started might I suggest a Rainier Arms upper/lower combo for $338.

Can be found here on our website.

All other parts can be found here.

Wow you have no clue what you are talking about. I built an entire AR from parts Ordered from Brownells. Except for the S&J barrel and STI matched upper and lower for Freedom Ventures.

You might as well buy in Canada unless they dont have it in stock. Once shipping is included you're only saving about 10- 15 % ( If you get hit by CBSA then it ends up more expensive )

check the EE for parts as well. I scored so pretty good deals over the years.

Be very careful whose parts you buy. Stick with reputable companies especially with barrels and BCG. I recommend armalite. However I am just now completing a build and I learned a hardish lesson. Its cheaper to buy a norc or dominion arms ar than to build your own. They run about 699 +tax. Using parts from reputable companies it would be impossible to build an AR for this money. Not only that but you need some specialised tools for final assembly. Just be aware that costs may get higher than buying complete and that it will take some time because parts are still a little scarce right now. As long as you know this; building your own AR is pretty rewarding because you get exactly what YOU want and building stuff is fun. Enjoy your new obsession because its probably already too late for you to escape. Welcome to the darkside, we have cookies. I cant tell you whos parts not to buy because I just got off of a six month ban for the same thing. If you buy from a dealer like One shot tactical you won't have to worry because they don't carry garbage parts, they can also do the final for you at reasonable cost.

It also depends on if you're looking for specific brands. Sometimes it's worth the extra money to get exactly what you want, rather than a less expensive part you might not be satisfied with.

One Shot Tactical Supply has some good parts, lots of high quality brands, got my BCG from them. Wolverine Supplies also carries a lot of good parts and various little pieces that might be hard to find elsewhere, I got my BUIS from them. Arms East has some good value Stag parts, I got my barrel and upper from them.
Maybe not the best prices in the country, but good parts.

I just did some rough estimates and it looks like I would be looking at at least $1500 before taxes for a 20" build using NEA discounted Z marked upper/lower...

Not sure how you guys do these "cheap" builds?

I would say thats not accurate. I built my AR with better parts for the same price as a Norc. YMMV, You just have to shop around and wait for deals.
Well I am currently at 695 using all used parts except LPK charging handle and gas tube. I still need to open the FSB out to .75 and have the barrel drilled for retaining pins. That being said I was going for a very specific look and needed very specific parts to achieve that.

One shot tactical has bushmaster carbon 15's at 997 right now and several other bushies at less than 1500. To do a cheap build you have to be patient and wait for deals or used parts.

I want a 20" barrel though. Might be better off buying a stag or wait until armalites come back to Canada...
