In Qc we have Addisson electronics...

I guess they can ship. Good luck.

I made one, it is every bit as clear and loud as my top of the line FoxPro.
I started with a 35watt megahorn from Ebay, installed a 1/8" line jack that allows any form of input (MP3, smartphone..)to override the internal microphone, when unplugged the megaphone functions as normal.
I ran it off a cheap MP3 player, I would make sequences at home, load them and hunt.

coyote caller

radio shack usa still sells them plus a place in north vancouver makes the amos in mono and stero ITS CALLED CANA KITS THEY HAVE EVERY THING YOU NEED. THEY ARE BUILT THERE.

I read "Building an electric collar." As in, an electric shock collar for the dog, or even the wife. That sounds like a bad idea unless you've got some serious electrical know how.

Building an electronic caller on the other hand, seems like a neat project. Good luck.

I am shopping for the same stuff.. If you end up ordering a horn from the states, let me know and maybe we can split shipping.

Digikey.ca has a horn type speaker, but its wattage is lower.

Princess Auto sometimes has PA speakers, but not right now.

I want to buy some cheap FRS radios and attempt to make my caller remote. MP3 player in my hand transmitting via radio. That way if distress calls aren't working, you could try howls/locators.

canakit.com is a cool site! I had never heard of it before. They also have the radio transmitters.

Bought everything from Radio Shack in USA, power horn and speaker amp and built two callers. Cost was about $60 and works great for price.

The simple answer is less distortion. To duplicate the high frequencies needed when calling predators can demand a bit of power, it's not just about volume.
Also, you can turn a 50 watt amp down to sound like 12 watts, but you cant turn 12 watts up to sound like 50.

Why do you need a 50 watt horn. The old Johnny Stewart horns were 12 watts and LOUD

I have had a few PM's on how to instal an input jack in to the EBAY megaphone mentioned in this thread, I will post some instructions. By far the loudest and clearest DIY kit I have heard.

I bought a "Shakespeare" horn that is used on a deck of a boat, made to hook up to a VHF. Got it a marine store. It's pretty loud, but do not recall the wattage. I made my call from a pair of old computer speakers, took them apart and used the amp in that. Check the voltage regulator in the speakers; mine was 6 volts, so I used 4 AA batteries to power it up. Used a mP3 player for the sounds, enclosed it in a small cooler.

A friend has a 10watt horn I'm going to try. I'll salvage an amp from somewhere or buy from canakits. The computer speakers amp is a great idea!
