Building an M1 Garand?

So this is a straight-up Cost question. Is it viable if I'm only ever going to do one. Am I better off to buy a built M1 from somebody who does them and brings in bulk parts?
I do a lot of Smith work for locals. And I love the idea of building my own rifle. But if it's going to cost me Much more to buy individual Parts I'd rather pick one up and customize it.
Is there a savings buying individual parts?

if you look at the prices and the scarcity of parts on the EE the sum of the parts and shipping will be more than the cost of a complete rifle.on the other hand theres quite a bit of satisfaction in shooting and owning a gun that you put together yourself.
 
I did it 3-4 years ago on a Breda receiver, It was roughly the same cost as buying a rifle. Sourced some parts locally, some out of the USA. I know the value of these rifles has gone up in the past year, but I haven't kept tabs on parts cost. I would still imagine you're not going to save any money building one.
 
Cheaper to buy a complete rifle, you also have to factor the cost of installing the barrel and getting the headspace correct. I also did it 4-5 years ago and it was pretty much same cost, now it would be more $$ for sure.
 
Depends. Build is not a cheap option and parts have become harder to source, but I wanted a .308 and they aren't common.
