Hello,

What are your take on this?

So tempted to buy Norinco M4 but how much do I really save? I'd rather build if it's only a few hundred more if quality will end up better!

So, questions is, if I build my own, how much would it cost for the dressings to look like a Norinco M4. I would reference a real AR15 instead, but me don't know much about ARs, but the M4 looks like what my cousin built in Cali or a an 'evil' looking AR! Hehehe...

Thanks!

If you have the extra cash to spend then go with building your own Ar. I bought an Eagle Arms complete lower and cerro forged 11.5" upper complete for a grand total of $1100...no tax. Then I bought a complete 16" upper made by Armalite for $700.

Good thread I'm interested too, I was wondering what it would cost to build a milspec type American/Canadian made AR. The dealer offerings sticky is outdated as prices have seemed to go up. Everywhere I look $1500.00 is the going rate bottom level of AR's not including Norinco's.

We have heard some great reviews on the CQ556 here. If its a cost thing go for a Norinco and ... lots of ammo ... and shoot it out!!! That way you"ll know what you want in a better gun at a later date.

If you have no moral dilemna's in regards to the China and their blatant disregard of copyright laws and intellectual property, human rights etc. and the fact that Norinco (North China Industries) is owned by the PLA ... making guns in state run factories, that the individual workers could never legally own in China. Hahaha! Than the Norinco M4'gery would be fine ...

Just my 2 cents.
Id prefer a US Made AR15 overall. but we have lots of options ...
You can always buy Canadian made. :canadaFlag:

Cool. Thanks all. As more respond, I should get a pretty good idea what to get.

I mean, I've been researching on and off while waiting for my RPAL but I still run into the same big questions. What to buy and costs involved.

As much as I want, I don't plan to own more than 1 AR15 type gun. Too much $$$ for something to look at and can only take to the range. LOL! I would love to get two, but my wallet says no. Plus, I'm looking to purchase other firearms too so no way can I duel wield two AR15. :)

I hope to check out the Norinco M4 at Epps next weekend and hopefully my plastic arrives next week in order to do that. If it feels nice in my hands, I mine as well just go for that and with $$$ left over, buy a crate of ammo.

Hey, Eagle Arms is in the US. Noob question. I thought it's very difficult to buy from the US? Is the process just as simple as just buying online in Canada for your AR build?

Epps won't allow anyone to handle a restricted without a RPAL. Their own stupid rule. :jerkit:

I would suggest:
Buy a complete rifle by a major maker in the configuration you prefer. Not all parts are created equal, mismatched parts may work well, may not. A brand name upper and a different brand name lower may work just fine.
Assembling a rifle from odds and ends in parts is interesting and eductional. You might even end up with as good a rifle as if you bought a finished unit. It might be less expensive, but it might not be, particularly if you want all the tactikewl options.
If you want an entry level M4gery, the Norinco is certainly an option. There don't seem to be any serious problems being reported, only cosmetic issues.
I see you are waiting for your RPAL - that suggests that you haven't been doing much AR shooting. If you are planning on shooting the thing, give some thought to what sort of shooting you will be doing.

Even the cosmetic issues seem to be quite minimal.
Given that, my M4 has more scratches and scuffs than fresh from the box. It's a beat about rifle IMO. Furthermore, I would not be in the black rifle game were it not for the value of the Norc M4.

The reliability is exceptional. The tollerances may not be super tight, which is a good thing in my book. Loose and smooth. Truly a black rifle for the proles.

How lame is that "liberal" rule, that's embarrassing... I wont buy from there after hearing this BS.....

It may be an arbitrary CFO guideline.
The staff at Ellwood Epps are not shy to navigate Canada's archaic gun laws.
They are very pro black rifle, tactical, etc, etc.

Case in point. My friend wanted to get his Norc M4 but he was not yet a memeber of any gun club. When one of the staff at Ellwood asked my friend about club membership, my friend replied that he had none. The staff member suggested that my friend state which club he intends to join in the future. My friend got approved for the transfer of the M4 about a week and a half later.

Another example was when I asked to buy some hollow points. The staff member at Epps made the point that punching paper with factory hollowpoints is expensive. He suggested plain jane hardball, unless I wanted to keep 'em in my safe with the pistols, just for the heck of it...

Epps does not Fudd around.
Prices are generally fair and the store itself is neat.
Lots of nick-nacks for mall ninjas and fudds and everything in between.

I don't belong to a club yet, but from what I gathered, even from my instructor, we are allowed to buy a restricted even if you don't belong a club (Ontario), so Epps should be able to sell your friend whether or not he belonged to a club.

These rules are so confusing. Instructor also said that the club (I dunno if that's the same with others) won't even do the ATT paper work for you until you own a handgun. LOL!

I'm very happy with my Norc m4. I do have problems with China in general, but the man's getting me down and I can't justify spending twice as much on a tool I barely get to shoot anyways. I like the FT arrangement on the CQ as well. So far, this rifle hasn't even hiccuped and my friends who have "better" rifles are jealous because of the dough they could have saved.

If you ever plan to shoot down in Stateside or like getting your fingers dirty building an AR, go with a US made one.

If you want a shooter that just works and works well, the Norc will serve you well. Plus the instruction manual is worth it's weight in gold for humor value.

Cool... I guess I can't go wrong with the Norinco. Let's hope piece of plastic comes in the mail so that I can actually go to Epps and look at the goodies and play with M4. Maybe I'll end up buying Russian SKS, crate of surplus ammo and M4 and see what kind of deal I can get. I don't think I'll drive back to pick up all the goodies, so I'll have it shipped to me.

I haven't decided yet. Still... $879 is still a whole lot of dough for something that I may barely use. Looking at it would be cool... but that high will wear out FAST! Conversation piece too (to the privileged - ones that won't leave my place thinking man.. this guy is nuts)

I have two Colt AR-15s. But I have to say for the price you cannot beat the Norinco M4. I hate China, and don't like buying their products if I can avoid it. But the Norinco M4 has my vote. If the Americans are going to be so stupid in their export regulations, well frankly people are going to buy other Ar-15s. I will be buying my M4 from Epps, one of the best gun shops in Ontario.

Epps is the #1 gun shop in this part of Ontario as far as I'm concerned! If they require an RPAL to handle restricteds, my bet is that its got something to do with the CFO.

Oh well.. Looks like I'll be hitting Epps to check out their goodies as soon as my RPAL arrives in mail... Man, thx a lot guys. Looks like I want to get my hands on a M4. LOL!

I hate buying anything made in China... Everything I buy is from China (and I'm sure the most recent item I bought - Mastercraft jet pump is probably from China too) and I'm tired of it. So I guess... if it's cheap, it's usually made in China. Some of their stuff are pretty good, but most is what you pay is what you get, unfortunately.
