Building ( assembling ) your own mags...

Been trying to find mags for my ( new to me ) STI DVC Open in 9 major and not having much luck...thinking why not just buy the tubes and then use third party componets to complete the job, like Grams springs, Henning base pads, or whatever.
Seems it might be easier to source, ( except for the tubes probably...) possibly cheaper ( at this point who cares, haha ), and maybe have a better ( read more reliable ) product in the end.
The only caveat is I might have to spend some time 'tuning' the mags, but I own a set of calipers...and would probably have to do that anyway, just another piece of the 'learning curve' puzzle!

Just be careful that the capacity of any mag components never can exceed the legal limits. There was a case recently where a guy was charged when he picked up his order from the US at the post office - he had ordered exterior shells of magazines that could hold more than the limit, and the Crown successfully argued that he was in possession of a prohibited device that could be completed with a Mag follower and spring set.

So no "high cap mag tubes"...

yeah, that case was bizarre. A slightly curved empty square tube is a prohibited device.

in most cases one has to prove intent, not just ability - after all we all have the ability to break many laws on a daily basis. But not in Canada.

Thanks for the tip...I would probably not have considered myself in possession of a 'prohibited' device when declaring 5-6 empty metal tubes.
Maybe tape up the bottom, fill them with peppermint candies and call them 'PED Dispensers', LOL...
