Building custom 10-22 footprint. Which receiver: Dlask Tuff 22 or Spectre C-71 ?

Saw a post on CCFR's FaceBook page about "tanker style" 10-22s last week.
Never saw that style ever before ... and it made this guy's britches kinda tight.

I've purchase Dlask products before (a full picatinny rail system for SR-22).
Was rather impressed with the fit and finish of it.

Seems the Tuff 22 receivers are out of stock at the moment.
And that aside, the TUFF 22 are more than twice the price of a Spectre C-71

I am all about buy once, cry once...but does the quality (track record) of the TUFF 22 justify the price difference ?
 
I wouldnt hesitate to buy a Dlask receiver. I have purchased and built a fair number and have had outstanding results with every one using their receiver. My current rifle I use on Outlaw and CRPS as well as X22 is built with a Dlask receiver! It has a Kidd trigger and barrel and VQ bolt sitting in a manners CF stock with a Kahles 318i and hitting the 1/4" KYL is easy with good ammo. The only receiver Ive seen that is better in my opinion is the SS Volquartsen and only because of the difference in material and the cost is crazy but I just had to have it haha. I have never used any Spectre products so I cant comment on them. As a side note I would watch the grades of aluminum being used because theres a big difference between 6061 and 7075. Just my thoughts.

Volquartsen is my first pick in a 10-22 platform. But, my budget for this build puts a veto that idea.

Excellent point on the grades (one that I overlooked)... Spectre doesn't indicate the grade on the billets for aluminum that they use.
I do like the fact that Spectre has an integrated rail.
Definitely be checking with them first before finalizing any decision.
 
I have bought and used both the spectr and dlask. I would say the dlask is more refined, with a better feel of it, plus they do have the ability to use the 50 round HC3R mags. Really hard to say you will notice range performance difference, but I would say the dlask is better. If you buy the reciever and barrel from dlask, they will also press fit it together. I have used the carbon barrels from them and they are one of the better ones from what I have used. Yes, I have tried a lot of them, except the IBI 10/22 barrels, but I did have the rimx 22 lr from IBI, so that is close. Better than the grey birch ones we used to see, and comparable to the volquartsen one I have on a take down, and at way less cost.

I haven't tried the volquartsen reciever, but use a tacsol, and prefer those over all the rest, just because of the dual slide rod bolt, plus the ability to mount the bolt handle on the left side of the receiver. It is a nice feature while right handed shootin, and you have a better grip of the rifle when needing to manually cycle the bolt for whatever reason. They are pricey as well though.

Personally I would go dlask over spectre, but that is my choice, not saying one is WAY better than the other, just choice.
 
Either, but I would choose the Dlask if it were me. I'd invest the better part of the $$ into a good tube and trigger as that's where getting a custom to shoot the way it is expected to should.

Also, they are not twice the price, are you sure that you weren’t looking at the takedown version?
 
I don't recall seeing in either of their descriptions having any kind of MOA built into the integrated rails... be cool if one of them did though.
 
DLASK for better build quality, aesthetics, and higher quality aluminum
Spectre only if you want the top mount AR like charging handle for it


They're both about the same price, both in stock, both take tuff 22 mags.

Mu tuff 22 is perfectly level to the barrel, DLASK did sell flat top receivers, separate 0-10-20 MOA rail segments at one point, not sure if they still do.

DLASK is also in delta, you could just drive out to check on out in person if you want, that's what i normally do for my builds
 
For the $50 more....I'd go for the DLASK receiver.
I have their take-down receiver and it's primo.....along with the rest of their build.
 
I've bought quite a few pieces from Dlask over the years, including Tuff-22 receivers, and every bit of stuff they've made has been top quality. Never had a defect!

I have had a couple of quibbles with Spectre, including a receiver that hadn't gotten the dimple machined that the back of the guide rod is supposed to sit in, though that took just a deep breath and a Dremel to set right.

You didn't contact Spectre about the issue ? How does it shoot/function ? Any jamming etc ?

No, it was just a quick obvious fix, and it shoots fine. Of course, I could credit that to the Kidd bolt and Dlask charging handle/rod/spring I put in it, and didn't know for certain Spectre didn't recommend an alternative solution that didn't need to seat the rod there. I had already met Grey Birch's different solution to bolt engineering by that point, for example. I don't think Spectre were offering their own bolts yet back then.

I should add that I think well of Spectre, it's just that Dlask casts such a long shadow that it's hard to match.
