I am looking into building or modifying the floor/bottom plte
Of my mauser 98 to accept a detachable mag.
I just picked up a ww2 bar mag in 30/06 i am shoot 6.5x55
But the bar mag is a little big by mean that it is a pefect rectangle and the Floor plate
Tapers

Curious to know has any one used any other floor plates off newer firearms using rhe 98 action
So they could have detachable mags.
Like a rem 700 or something.

I knowni can buy a new plate and mag to the tune of $300 US
BUT I LIKE BUILDING

Hope someone had info or has fone it and would be able to source those parts

The part that sticks out the bottom is less important than the relationship of the follower, the feed lips and the receiver rails.

There is no point in making a cut in the front of the BAR box, squeezing it and brazing the edges together, only to realize the cartridge is held too low for the face of the bolt to strip it out. You may have to trim off the BAR's feed lips and then discover that rounds aren't held securely enough, and they dump themselves out.

As for followers, why not use the existing fixed magazine follower as your cross section profile and figure out how to attach the follower spring from the BAR magazine.
