I want a compact, polymer, striker-fired pistol with good (but not hair) trigger and a red dot.

I have a S&W M&P 2.0 right now. Not sure if it's worth upgrading it (trigger upgrade and slide cut) or just get something new. It looks like a major investment, on par with getting a new pistol.

Shadow Systems MR920 looks very cool, but not available yet, and I'm not a huge fan of the Glock grip angle.

CZ P10F seems nice, but I don't see a version with pre-cut slide on Canadian market yet.

Suggestions appreciated.
 
Glock grip and trigger guard would bite into my finger. That's why I went with a Polymer80 lower. Tons of upgrades to glock you can make. Better to just get a zev oz9. Amazing it is.

P226 elite is top notch. Front serrations, srt trigger and upper slide kits. Hold there value better.

Beretta m9a3 and LTT is top notch.

Tons of options. I'd stay away from going all out on glock unless it's competition gun. Just a range toy and for the cool factor. Better to buy 4 basic guns. Only because by the time you get a barrel, slide milled for optic or serrations, trigger upgrades , possible compensator. Your glock is at the cost of a higher end pistol.

I did not go any further than g19 gun and Polymer80 lower project. If your going to be at $2k plus budget. Buy 4 decent guns like , g17, s&w 9, p320 and sf9. You can buy all 4 used guns on EE for price of tricked out glock. You can also just buy one real nicely fitted dan wesson 1911 of EE for 1500ish

I already have Shadow 2 for a full size, steel frame, competition blaster. I'm looking for a compact, polymer, striker-fired, high quality handgun.

I'm not trying to build a war arsenal, so to your example: I'd rather have one good gun than 4 mediocre ones.

Glock I'm not really interested in. The only really good thing about Glock is its magazines, and I'd have to replace 75% of its factory value with aftermarket parts to get to where I want.

Zev is an option I will look into. Does it use Glock mags? If so, does it have the same goofy grip angle?

I own a Shadow System MR 918L elite and a Zev OZ9. The Shadow System grip angle is interchangeable with the backstraps. I am not a fan of the Glock bump so I have the neutral angle back strap installed and I really enjoy it. The Zev has a 1911 grip angle (18 degree vs the Glock 22 degree) and in my humble opinion has the perfect grip angle for me. Yes the Zev uses glock magazines. My hand is on the smaller side so I purchased the smaller compact grip housing. That's the great thing about the Zev modularity you can customize it to fit your hand perfectly. For size comparison the compact Zev grip = Glock 19 size and the standard Zev grip = Glock 17 size. If you have any questions about the Shadow Systems or Zev PM me.

That's a good info, thank you. I'll keep the conversation here, since I think it would be interesting to people.

Overall, would you say Zev has something to justify ~900CAD price difference over MR918?
 
I'm having fun with my Sig P320 RX.
Factory Sig Romeo 1 optic with co-witness sights.
I did upgrade the trigger to the Apex forward set and got the smaller size lower / grip.
 
If you mean "high quality" handgun, it shouldn't be a polymer frame handgun. I owned highly mod Glock17 and Zev OZ9 before, They are just GLOCK even with a lot of upgrades. It may hurt some glock fanboys but it is the truth.

Take a serious look at Beretta LTT, you won't be regret to have it.

Slide work (optic cut, serrations), suppressor height sights (to cowitness with optic), trigger job, grip stippling job.
 
Have a serious look at the Sig P320 RX. It's the cheapest way into the pistol optics game and once you are in virtually every part is user upgradeable; barrel, entire grip module, trigger, trigger parts, slide, you name it. I have enjoyed great success with mine and it has become my go to pistol.
 
How is this a question, get a Walther ppq tac and be happy. If you really have a hard on for a Gucci cut up polymer then buy someones used one that they suck $3k into and are selling it because they figured out they still shoot the same after emptying their savings account.
 
I had a Canik tp9sfx with a red dot, quite liked it for a polymer strike fired gun. Nice trigger . Still available, last I looked.
They have a new model out , the elite that is a up grade and shorter. I have not tried one but hear good things about it.

Both the Shadow System and Zev feel great and shoot amazingly. I think Zev hit it out of the park with the complete modularity design. You ask if the 900.00 difference is worth it, only you can answer that. If you want a very unique gun with cool features that fits like a glove them yes its worth it. I have 850 rounds through my Zev and 3000 through my Shadow System. All have been flawless. I no longer own any glocks as these 2 Glock style pistols suit my needs. When I am at the range and people ask to shoot them I always say OK. I have never had anyone give me a negative comment. Are both of these pistols expensive ....yes. SO you must choose wants vs needs. Once I held the Zev and felt the balance etc, I was sold. My friend has 2 firearms a IWI Masada and a Walther Creed and he will never part with them. He shoots them well and has no concerns. Everyone is different and there is no one gun fits all scenario. You choose what feels right for you. If you were in the GTA East end I would invite you to try them out my pistols . In my opinion both the Shadow Systems and Zev are great choices. On a side note my go to range pistol that comes with me every trip is my Walther PPQ m2 5 inch. It very different from the other 2 but its fun to shoot and accurate as hell. The trigger is the best for an out of the box gun,
