Bought an unfired Bul M-5 government in .45 a few weeks ago from a known CGN'r and today was the time to shoot it for the first time. I was pretty impressed on the build quality when I first stripped it, very tight, sweet trigger, a match bull barrel and FLGR. It was covered with the factory grease, gummed up pretty good since it sat unused for the last 8-9+ yrs so had to give it a good cleaning. When all said and done it was ready for it's break-in at the range.
I had a box through it and was very impressed with the accuracy I was getting when the guy next to me ask me to try his 1911. The 1911 in question was a blued Colt Special Combat Government from the Colt custom shop. I know that pistol. Also know it cost over $3k... I was rather happy to take it for a spin.
Using the same shooting lane, same distance 25 meters (27 yards), same targets and same ammo I got a tad over 3" for 25 rounds off the rest with the Colt. The same drill with the Bul resulted in a hair over 3.25". All in all you can call it a wash, both pistols have a sweet 3.5# trigger, very crisp. Grips, sights and finish of the Colt are head and shoulder above the Bul of course. Performance wise, both shot equally well. All in all I'm very impressed with it considering how inexpensive it is. After trying out the Bul and looking impressed, the guy asked me how much was it... Can you imagine his reaction when I told him?
