I just picked up a cooey 840 in 28ga and when I got home I notice a slight bulge in the barrel, it's about 9" from the chamber, should I be worried about this or just blast away

Are you 100% sure it is a bulge?? Can you post a pic. Could it be the factory machining. They stay real thick until they get past the welded mount for the forearm and then drop quickly especially in a 28ga . Plus they probally have one of the thickest barrels known on a shotgun in that area which would be almost impossible to bulge without splitting in my mind . Is it right over the weld on lug by any chance??

are you looking at my shotgun? looks like what you just said

No but I have some of those cooeys in the smaller gauges and have seen some ugly factory work in that area from time to time.
I'm not saying it isn't bulged there but it would be hard to imagine with the thickness in that area, same time don't want to say it is ok if it isn't.
Any chance of a pic

I have tried for years to get pics on this site, but I don't have a computer degree

I hear you. I am one of these old two and 1/2 finger typing guys my self.;)
Any gunsmiths close that could have a quick look for you I bet it is factory but best to have it checked to make 100% sure just in case. Wish I could be of more help.

thanks for the info guys, just put 2 boxes of shells through it and she worked just fine, those nasty tim horton cups didn't have a chance ... lol

I would be very worried! The pressure probably caused the buldge. If you intend to keep the gun, visit a gunsmith for inspection. If not worth it, then donate it to your gun club (tell them about the buldge though...) :)

Not sure about your Cooey, but I use a Winchester 50 semi with a blip in the barrel. Gophers don't notice!
