Why is it so difficult to find bulk or surplus .308?

I would love to buy federal like below which is only $169 in the US at Cabelas but I can't find anywhere in Canada selling ammo other than 00 Buck in ammo cans. Nor can I find anyone selling .308 surplus or in Large quanties. I feel almost naked only having 200 rds at home and I need more.

Also I am not trying to start a discussion about reloading as I just simply don't have the time/space to do it, I just want to shoot my rifles.

The problem also is the huge price difference even if you consider shipping. Cabella's are not selling it at a loss and like so many things it is too expesive here in Canada.

IIRC Gun Centre's price for Privi is $427.00/500.

.308 is just too expensive to plink with now unless you reload - Thats why my m14 sits in the safe. I have moved to exclusive .223 and 7.62x39 plinking.

I'm right on the verge of making this transition myself...

Didn't get my ass in gear and learn to reload this winter like I had planned. Now another shooting season has arrived and I am out of 7.62x51, and need 1000+ rounds to shoot what I want to shoot. Now everytime I add a crate of .308 to my online shopping cart, I stop and think WTF am I not buying a) reloading componenets to make use of the 2000+/- .308 cases I have in the basement or b) a rifle in .223.

On top of it all I was warned that the M14 would get too expensive to shoot, but it's still a rifle I will never part with. :ar15:

So to the OP, finding bulk or surplus .308 is easy, but finding it cheap is impossible. :(
