Bull Barrels

Nailgunslinger I have a CZ 452 style and although it does not have a SS barrel is does have a nickle plated barrel. So far I have been VERY impressed with accuracy of the gun, as I am sure you know is regular with all CZ'z. I have had it on many hunting trips and have had it through the bush many times and it still looks in excellent condition with only very minor scratches on the stock and barrel. Stock is composite which may not be as preatty or feel as good as that of a wooden stock but it is nice in the way that when taking it in the bush I do not have to worry (as much) about it getting scratched or dented as I would have to with the wood. Its definately my go to gun for hunting. Maybe not exactly what you were looking for but I must say my style works perfectly for me.

Hmm how is the stock ? Have you found it durable ,comfortable to hold, cheap feeling at all? The accuracy has been good for hunting what may I ask and at what distance and what kind of shot? I may have to go and check one out.

I suppose the stock is preaty nice. It is textured more (not that softer rubber texturing that some composite stocks) but a lot better than the composte stocks that ruger and savage put out. It is comfortable to hold for me (just like any other gun but with again that textured rougher feeling which is not necesserily good or bad). I have heard some reports of the stocks that savage puts out have a lot of bend and a real cheap feeling but the stock on my CZ feels sturdy enough.

1/2" groups or less at 50 yards preatty easy with decent ammo off the bench. I am not the best offhand shot in the world (epsecially without my shooting equipment) but at 25 yards offhand about 10 shots into an inch...

Here are some groups at 50 yards with lapua superclub. Can't remember how many shots - looks to be about 4 per group

Heat

I shoot a bull barrel .17 HMR. When I get into a field of gophers the barrel gets so hot you can barely touch it. I have to take a break to let it cool down for fear of damaging my rifle. When I bought it I didnt really care which barrel I got but But there was only a bull barrel available so I ended up with that. Now I’m glad I did , cant imagine how hot a regular barrel would get.
Just somthing else to consider

Hmm well I suppose I will go to a gun shop and check one out, I hope they have one in stock, I'm sure I would be satisfied, I like the american model so the style I believe is the same with a syn. stock, I'll see if it fits me. I know they can shoot from experince but hell so can my cooey lol, I just want a clip fed bolt action. Too bad its not in a BB too. I know the Savage has a cheap syn stock(is their aftermaket stocks or s/s barrels for a mark II?) and I'm not sold on their laminates. They can shoot though for the price. Ack, decisions, decisions. I wish they let you shoot and fondle before you bought. :)
By the way on an off topic anyone try out a winchester wildcat eg TOZ 78 I believe. Thought it might make a good backseat truck gun.

Man if I had access to gophers on a regular basis I would buy a .17 HMR , but sadly I dont. I do have coyotes but the .223 works fine. Mostly its for hunting and target practice with the wife and buddies so it doesnt get too hot. Good advice none the less. What kind of gun did you get? Who knows maybe in the future I'll get a .17 just for the heck of it, you can never have enough rifles.:D

I have a CZ452 (bolt) and a Remmy 597 (semi-auto) both with bull barrels. The 597 is very accurate and the CZ is better yet. I prefer the bull barrel, it just steadies up the rifle that much better, and it feels better. As whether it is inherently more accurate than a sporter, don't know but it does make me feel as though I shoot better.
