Bulled Barrel for 10/22?

You could go with a .920 but go shorter to keep the weight down. Here are some of ours, to give you an idea... they are fairly light and very accurate;

Sweet looking setup, that's pretty much what I had in mind and wanted to make. If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did it cost to set that up. I think I would stick to the normal 10/22 receiver for now just to keep the cost down, I don't have a lot of money to play with so I want to make the project as budget friendly as possible. I'm thinking just getting the stock, bipod and scope for now.

How's your woodworking skills? You can make a stock similar to that one using your stock one as a base. If you have any metalworking skills you can get a 2.5# trigger using your stock components allowing you to spend more on your barrel and scope. It really isn't hard at all and I'll email you a file with all the instructions, just PM me your address.

I will ballpark the budget for you... BUT I HATE to write it out in black and white... forces me to acknowledge the obsession! :D

Prices will include taxes and shipping, (won't talk about scope, mount or rings);

$300 - 10/22 donor (you'll keep the receiver and bolt/ we used the DAR22 receiver and RT's black parkerized bolts... which cost us $270, you do the math)
$225 - Trigger group (RT or VQ OR for $75 David at Brimstone will do a Tier 2 job and upgrade to the full width RT trigger, if you are keeping the cost down, this is the way to go, David does an amazing trigger job)
$190 - Dlask barrel (your choice, the ones above are 12.5"/.920")
$145 - Boyd's stock of your choice
$50 - RT or PC charging handle
$50 - Misc. parts; PC or VQ extractor, sling studs, rails etc...

So there you go... you are around $900 or so and still need glass... which depending on how you feel about optical quality could run more than the rifle... personally I would recommend a Mueller APV 4.5-14X40mm (about $150 when all is said and done) or better yet a Hawke Varmint SF 4-16X44mm ($220... LOVE the 1/2 mil-dot reticle). The hardest part is sourcing parts and waiting to get everything in... the anticipation is a killer.

Good luck with your build! :)

Ya $900 on a .22 is not happening for me. I'd love to have one but can't fork over that money right now.

If I build mine I'd be looking at getting just the stock, glass, and bipod.
So I'm hoping to keep her around $300 to start. That's not including getting a 10/22. I want to find one for cheap.

I don't have any metal working skills and as for my wood working I don't think they would be good enough to make my own stock. Building stuff I can do no problem but I don't have access to a shop or the tools I would need to for the wood working since I am a university student renting houses every 8 months.

Good luck finding a cheap one. I saw the cheapest model (metal trigger guard version) go for $325 plus buyer's premium plus tax at auction this weekend.

I'll second the Brimstone Tier 2 trigger job. Mine breaks at just under 2.5lbs now, which is probably a good all-around weight. If I was to do it again, I'd aim for around 2lb, since I shoot mostly off-hand at the range.

Hi Doug,
That's too bad as it is the perfect way to get the gun you want for way less money. Good luck in your endeavors.

Hey Hoyt, just curious on where you get the RF parts from up here in Canada? Also, do you think that 12.5"/.920" barrel is light enough for hunting with in the bush? Does it balance back enough to hold it off hand comfortably, or is it a bench setup all the way?

I will be testing both the 12.5 Bull and 16.5 Bull from Dlask Saturday with 5 types of ammo from 25 to 100m to see witch one gives best groups...

Will mount my Vortex 4-16-50 PST and my Atlas bipod for the test ....

Cant wait to see witch one will do best... I also ordered the short Dlask rail... Hope it will be in Before my test....

RT... from a vendor that no longer ships to Canada... if you get a Brimstone trigger job, David includes an RT full-width trigger... PM me.

The bush is where the 12.5" shines... it is a great roving gun for plinking and hunting... it is nice on the bench too, but if I was making a bench specific gun I would probably go with a 16" barrel over the 12.5"...

I should have never went to the 10/22 thread showing all the different rigs everyone has set up because now I must have changed my mind 10 times on what I want to build.

In terms of bipods any recommendations? Not looking for a top of the line bipod I'm looking for the cheapest functional one but not a piece of junk. I'll also look around here to see if anyone is selling one on the exchange forums for a good price.

You should be able to pick up a used 10/22 for around $200 to get you started. I picked up a new Ruger 10/22 compact for $250 shipped from the EE.

I've been spending a good amount of time looking for one. Checking the CGN forums multiple times a day in case one pops up.

I am happy with the Shooter's Choice Rock Mount bipod. It can be had for around $50.

Hey Kim can you send me the info on the trigger work :)
Thanks

So after looking through my options and pricing things out I figured out my project plans.

To start I will be getting a Blackhawk 10/22 stock with a UTG bipod.
I will keep the factory barrel on the ruger for now and plink around with it for a bit. I need to do a little more research and talk to some more people about optics before I go out and buy one. As for the Bull Barrel I am going to hold off on that. Id rather spend the money on other things currently.
