I'm looking at 390/405/450 grain lead cast bullets for my .45-70 Marlin 1895 as a BC interior Grizzly defense round. Of the 3 choices, which one would you choose and why, as well as what powder?

Thank you kindly
Mike

Bullet Barn is A+++++++ so don't take me wrong they have taken my money. But learn to cast you will never turn back. I cast the 405, middle of the road, plus more classic. I always recommend fast burning rifle powders for cast boolits. IMR4198 works great in all my cast reloads, but be warned it burns dirty but cleaning them is half the fun. Besta luck

I agree 405 is the way to go 450 may be to long to feed through a marlin some of these heavier bullets are designed for the single shots where length does not matter and I also use 4198 but 3031 or 4895 would work

There is a difference between IMR and H. Some will tell you to never substitute which I strongly believe in one kind is one kind and DONT ASUME. But if you looking in the burn rate table in the reloading manual they are side by side. The difference between the two is H is coated with a micro surface so in different conditions it burns the same, where as in winter example IMR burns a fraction slower, and summer faster. For extreme accuracy you will notice but for fun and more then likely open sites on a 45-70 you will never notice. Plus most of the time you should not be pushing cast boolits as fast as jacketed, as well my 2 cents my shoulder likes slightly slower, and the brass lasts longer so cheaper.
