I'm on the fence between 168 Barns TSX and 180 grain Nosler Partition for a 308 Win 20 inches barrel.

I will use Varget to load them in lapua cases.

I will use those rounds for hunting moose and deer at 250-300 yards max.

I chose 168 grains TSX instead of the 180 grains TSX because I want to make sure that they open at 300 yards.

Any toughts from you in my dilemma ?

If you're looking for a good bullet for both moose and deer I would go with the Partition simply because it's going to expand a bit quicker than the TSX, which will
pay dividends with the deer and with moose it will still retain at least 60% of it's initial weight no matter how violently the front expands . I just got a thread up about different hunting bullets that might
help guide your decision if there's anything I've missed here.

The Barnes bullets work best when traveling at speed. Using them at ranges were they are traveling less than 2200 is defeating their strength. If you choose the Partition, there is no reason for the 180, a 165 or even a 150 would be great, Moose are not particularly tough animals.

308 with 20 inch barrel would be better with a 150 barnes ttsx or a 165 partition/accubond. the partition/accubond would be my choice as you will get expansion at longer ranges. I can get a 150 swift scirroco out of my 308 20 inch barrel to 2900fps. I know it will perform well at all reasonable ranges.

IMO the velocity loss in a 180 grain or above in the 308, make the 165 grain bullet a best choice.

I use 165's for everything in the 308, moose, deer, and Black bear.

You can use a premium if you want, but frankly, the Hornady Interlock is a great hunting bullet, and lots accurate for 300 yard shooting.

The Nosler partition is a well built bullet BUT also contains LEAD.

If the animal I am shooting at is intended to be eaten i always choose non lead projectiles when possible.

There is a lot of info on this topic on the web with arguments for avoiding lead and others that say it is a minimal risk. There are photos of game meat that have been x-rayed and the amount of lead fragments in the game meat is surprising.

here is a link to the NY dept. of environment with some photos of a deer shot with lead core ammunition

I would agree with this. TSX bullets are best when driven a bit harder than the 308 can drive them. 165 gr partitions would work great.
