Bullet Choice for 9.3x62

For reloading the 9.3x62. Like I mentioned above, I bought PPU factory 286gr loads to practice with and for the brass.

I got 286gr PPU bullets for reloading with. The 52ed Lyman manual has loading data for Varget (which I have and plan to use), but lists numerous other powders. Any experience/suggestions for or against?

I have a few powders that will work for the 9.3x62, I also use ppu brass and 285gr ppu bullets and the powder that performs best on my rifle is Varget.
Awesome. Since I already have Varget, this is welcome news.

What's your favorite load in that combo?

59.5 grains of Varget
That's really interesting. The Hodgdon reloading data center website lists 59.0 as a maximum compressed load for Varget, but that's with a 286 grain Nosler partition. I would assume the difference is due to bullet construction and or seating depth of the PPU 286.

Any idea what sort of velocities you are getting out of that load?

I've had good results with the 285gr PPU loaded to 2450 fps in 2014. From 25 yards on a moose (Shoulder shot and bullet found on the offside) dropped on the spot to 250 yard shot on a black bear with similar results but with a pass through, a few in between shots on another bear and deer, and much of the same. That bullet did great!

On another note:
Be sure your reloadet Shell feeds flawlessly from Magazine to Chamber.
Some years ago we found that RWS Factory Ammo would not feed at all in a Mauser 96 Action becouse of Bullet shape.

However reloadet Ammo with the Speer 270 Grain Spitzer fed well in the M96 and killed Moose as quick as any heavy Bullet well placed.

Cheers

After hearing a very knowledgeable site member speak very highly of the 9.3x62, I decided to get one. I opted for an inexpensive M-70 full wood Zastava Hunting Carbine. In preparation to reload for it, I picked up a selection of bullets to test. The first I tried was the 285gr PRVI. Accuracy with my first two handloads, unbelievable!! Never even bothered trying any of the other bullets I acquired.
