I am shooting a 300 RSAUM, with a bushnell elite 4200 2.5x10 on it. Recently I have been practicing some longer range shooting. I eventually would like to upgrade the scope for a proper power for longer range shooting, but it is working fine out to 400 yds. I am looking to keep groups sufficient for hunting, not target competition. That being said, I don't like the idea of "hold over", I am not comfortable with judging the distances to hold over.

I see that you can pay some big dollars to have after market turrets installed.

On my scope I am able to adjust windage and elevation without a screw driver. If I was to calibrate the amount of clicks needed for 200, 300, 400, 450 yards and mark it on the dial, would this work?

This may seem like a stupid question, but I am figuring their must be a reason to purchase bdc turrets for the scope, rather then making my adjustments. The only thing slowing me down is I would have to unscrew the dust cap before adjusting, but I figure if I am looking at a 300 yd shot, I will have the time.

Thanks for any help

"...a reason to purchase bdc turrets..." Extra dial inserts were for reloading. And yes you could mark the dial. Nail polish or the like works well.
