What bullet would you rely upon to kill an Elk. I have used many of the older bullets; Speer, Sierra, Hornady, and partitions. Some of the new solid copper sounds good. Thanks for ideas from those that have used them on elk

I would use 175gr Partitions or 175Gr SP Hornady interlocks at about 2700fts. Excellent big game bullets. That's what I will plan to shoot out of a 7x64 which is essentially the same thing except that is the European version and quite abit older (1917-to present).

To my way thinking, 160 gr bullets go hand in hand with 7mm rifles in the .280/Remington/Ackley/Brenneke class. That said, you can't look at a 7/150 gr Scirocco and not want to shoot it, but in 160 gr offerings, the Partition would be near the top of the heap.

i guided three guys from Wyoming that used 160 grains partition with their 7 mm magnum. so i think that 280 will work well with that combo. i imagine bullet placment has to be taken in the equation.

I shoot 140gr TSX out of my 7x64 Brenneke. I've shot a couple whitetail but no elk with it yet. The performance on whitetail was perfect and I would expect it to be more than adequate on elk as well.

The 280 (especially the AI) is trendy and cool and deserves a trendy bullet. Can't go wrong with the Barnes offerings. But as others have pointed out, there are lots of good 7mm bullets. Pretty hard to choose a bad one.

Lots will work... there are many flashy, cute bullets working the circuit now, but the 7mm 150 Partition will keep getting it done.

Hornady Amax. 400 yard shot with a .308 208 grainer and the elk is still dead...

Same for the 100 yard antelope. Same bullet, just 300wm velocity. Still dead.

140gr TTSX is what I zeroed mine with and would shoot an elk confidently with this bullet.
I used a 154gr Hornady plain Jane Interlock bullet on 2 cow elk from my 7 WSM with no need for a follow up shot.
