I just reloaded the first 20 rounds for my 12FV .223 Savage. 68 grain Hornady HPBT match bullets 10 rounds with 24 grains and 10 rounds with 24.5 grains of Varget.
As soon as my new scope arrives I will post a range report.
I spent some time with a case and bullet getting the bullet about .010" off the lands. I was surprised at the difference in length when I compared the hand loaded bullet to a Federal with a 55 grain bullet. The Federal must be at least .125" off the lands that is a considerable amount.
I get fairly good groups with the federal ammo but I also get a lot of flyers.

yup , comercial ammo, and the COAL listed in book, is just the standard length to fit in all mags and chambers...

every rifle iv ever loaded for is way longer then the COAL listed in reloading manuals

I have tried a few different loads and found 25 grains of Varget give the best groups so far. The wind was gusting fairly hard at the range yesterday I was still able to get some pretty small groups. I am going to experiment with COL next.

Please reduce the size of your pictures.
"...surprised at the difference in length when..." A 68 grain bullet is longer than a 55. If you change bullets you have to work up the load again.
"...1/2" 4 shot group..." At what distance? If at 100, I'd leave it be and sight in. The load works. Mind you, you should work up the load from the starting load going up in half grain increments. Try going back to 24 and work up in 1/10th increments.
"...about .010" off the lands..." Every rifle has its own preference. Fiddling with the OAL is the only way to find how far off the lands your rifle likes. Big time trial and error thing.

And right there shows why measuring from base to tip gives a false measurement. If you were to use a bullet comparator and measure from the ogive you would get almost identical measurements from both.
