bullet options for the .30-30?

reading the wiki, I see they list details on a 110 grain bullet load. what bullet(s) are available for the .30-30 in weights that low?

and while I know pointed bullets are faux pas, are there options for a round nose copper bullet like the TTSX? seems that having something like that with the velocities attained using bullet weights like that would be a deadly combination.

The 30-30 was designed around bullets in the 150 - 170 grain weights. [IIRC, the first bullet was a 160 grain pill]
It seems redundant to try to make something out of it that is was not designed to be.
That being said, many weights from 90 grains to 180 grains have been loaded over the years.
At 30-30 velocities, there is no need for boutique bullets either.
Conventional RN or FN bullets of the C&C design work perfectly in this smaller case.
Dave.

Dave.
no it doesn't. we're always tweaking and trying to make stuff better. it's done because of reasons!

it's just interesting that you can take the .30-30 and have ballistics that are comparable to newer and more advanced options. :)

I loaded some 110 grain bullets once just to try and they shot so high that the sights wouldnt adjust enough.

I found the same thing with the Remington Accelerators. Somebody gave me a part box, but they shot so high there was really no practical use for them. The only use they would have for me is to have a few in my pocket for shooting coyotes in deer season, but it would require a complete rezero of the rifle between shots. I think the sabots are available as components somewhere.

A very cool round that for me never loses its appeal. Loaded up some 150gr spitzers for my .30-30 Handi-Rifle for target shooting last week. Being a single shot it can be loaded with any bullet type. A lever rifle could be single loaded plus 1 in the tube with spitzers.

Comparable to which newer offerings? 7.62x39? Whoop-de-doo :) :) :) Best way to make the 30-30 better is to load the 150-170 grain bullets with Leverevolution powder.

Most spitzers leave the cartridge too long to cycle through the action. At least for the Win 94's you need a bullet specifically designed for the .30-30. I was hoping to be able to use normal 180 gr. rn for my brother's .307, but they don't work.

There is always the ai option as well. Apparently its right there with 300 savage

I am doubtful. First off, the 30-30 is most frequently seen in a lever action like the 336 Marlin or 94 Winchester.
If the 300 Savage is in a levergun, it is in the stronger M99 Action, and quite often it's found in a boltgun.
The 30-30 AI gives up capacity to the 300, and I drive 150 grain bullets to 2850+ in a bolt-action 300 Savage.
The 30-30 AI will make 2650, or a bit more...that is it. D.

BTW, I love the 30-30, and have several of them. It is a legendary chambering, and has many assets.
Both my Marlins will flirt with 1 moa if I do my part and feed them what they like.
My M94 is a 1.3moa rifle with one 170 grain load at just over 2250 fps....what's not to like?
Trying to hotrod such a mild mannered, effective round just seems like a lesson in futility. Dave.

I have just started reloading 30-30. I am using Hornady 160g FTX bullets for reloading for my wife's Marlin 336. Have not had a chance to shoot any yet.

I've loaded 110 speer hollow points and Hornaday 100 gr sj bullets for plinking, decent accuracy & light recoil, but they did have a significant poi change from the 150-170 grain loads. Never had a chance to try them on varmints.

I tend to be a bit off from Dave's thinking but right on with him this time. You don't need to try put a supercharger on the family grocery getter. I never seem to come across any LVR, still trying to use up some free H380 that chugs along just fine for me. I have lots of CFE223 gu-na give it a try next. For fun still hard to do better hardcast and Trail Boss
