Bullet pointing, who's doing it, who tested it?

I guess this goes more toward the competition guys. I've played with trimming and pointing a bit, made my own little pointing tool, I do them in the lathe, tried a few angles, maybe should try a few more.
I'm interested in what sort of changes/results any of you here doing it noticed.
I'm still not sold on it being worth the time personally.
 
POINTING BULLETS; in shooting 1000mtrs using berger bullets 105VLD 6mm, I have shot with shooters that do this and have seen NO DIFFERENCE in accuracy.
I don't believe it's worth the extra work.

Pointing bullets has nothing to do with improving accuracy it has to do with improving BC which is the game in long range shooting, if you can hit 2 5's instead of 4's 1/4" from the line because the BC is better then you have just scored 2 extra points.

I have also considered making a pointing die to experiment with and know some shooters are doing well with them , some guys have also screwed up some bullets doing it but there is a learning curve to doing it correctly like anything else.
Done right it would certainly be an advantage
 
In my testing I haven't seen any significant change in elevation, so I assume it hasn't affect my BC much yet. Currently pointing 308's at about 60°(30° per side from center line) when I get time I'll probably make an adjustable form tool that can do any angle.
 
Yesterday we were shooting at 800m for 4 relays, I did 2 relays(2&10) with regular untouched 175scenar L's, 1 relay with trimmed/pointed, and one with only trimmed(larger meplat but flat) I expected the trimmed ones to end up a little lower but they didn't seem to.
2 best relays were with regular untouched, but the conditions did get a bit tougher on the last 2 so its hard to tell what did what, elevation seemed a bit more off at that distance with pointed oddly enough. Everything I shot last weekend was trimmed/pointed and it did great for 300-500-600meters, but I had also changed many other things, so trying to narrow down what I'll focus on and what I won't waste too much time on. Coyote, are you coming to our APM at the end of the month? I can't make it to the NB one unfortunately, maybe next year...
 
Affect and benefit is very small... some swear by it, some swear at it.

I had 1 bullet that actually increased drag once I pointed it... drop was significantly higher with this weird combo of bullet and pointing.

So, give it a try.... if it helps, great. If it doesn't, don't worry about it. Better brands of bullets already have pretty consistent meplats.

Definitely, if you are pointing, try various angles... then you can do some research into nose angles vs supersonic and subsonic flight.

I do a slight variation, using a meplat uniformer that leaves the tips flat. I don't do it to uniform BCs, just for the entirely practical purpose of being able to chase the lands a little longer and still fit in the magazine. Taking 50 thou off a plastic tipped bullet hasn't changed anything that I can detect; but it can get a free extra year out of a barrel, or allow the use of a bullet as a repeater instead of a single shot.
