Bullet Pullers & Chronies

I have an RCBS hammer style puller as well. I have used it very little but when I had to pull some Grand Slam bullets, the tips were damaged when they hit the hit the end of the puller upon release from the brass. I had to put some padding in the end of the puller to protect the bullet tips. This was a pain because the powder then had to be shaken out and the padding reinstalled each time.

I am looking at get myself a Chrony
My options at this point are the Shooting Chrony's F1 or Beta
does anyone have any opinions in regards to these two models?

Bullet pullers, which is better the Collets used in the presses or an inertia hammer type? Looking at Hornady and RCBS.
I've been using vise grips all along which destroys the bullets and I hate to waste them.

My choices would be the Beta, although the F1 would be fine too.

The Collet mounted press pullers are the only choice. Those hammer things are a waste of time: slow, messy and noisy as hell.

Your choice of puller relates to the type of ammo you need to pull. If you are working up a rifle load and have several rounds left that are charged hotter than what you have determined is you maximum load, the collet puller is great. The kinetic pullets work best with very heavy bullets, but if you have heavily crimped cast bullet loads, it will take some pounding to get them to release. There is no commercial puller I have found that is suitable for pulling military ammo that uses a sealant around the bullet.

Finally I gave up on the whole issue of commercial pullers and now use a set of plier style wire strippers, and run the round up into the press, then grip the bullet with the serrated portion of the strippers between the handles where there is a row of serrations for wire of various sizes. These pull jacketed bullets with only a couple of indentations on the bullet. They also work well with cast bullets on either rifle cartridges or pistol cartridges on extended shell holders, although typically the cast bullet is damaged and should be discarded.

I have had good success using the Hornady collet bench press puller. You can really tighten it down on the bullet. Works for 5.56 and 7.62 military lacquered and tarred rounds. Sometimes it takes two tries, and a hefty push down on the press handle.

one thought I just had is the 300WSM cases, I'm wundering if the little fat cases will fit into the press collets, such as the Hornady and RCBS, I know I had to do some grinding work to a few things in my reloading drawer already to get them to fit.
My reloading needs fall into these calibers
257Roberts 117g
280Rem 140-160g
30.06 168g
7mmRM 162g
300WSM 165-180g
340Wby 250g

My Forster -about 2 years old - will not pull bullets on the WSM cases as they are too "fat" to fit up into the puller body. I bought a Hornady puller just for the wizzums and it works fine.

The Hornady collet puller sticks below the opening of the press, the only thing that enters is the bullet itself.

I have a Forster superfast puller as well, and that more or less sits on top of the press. It will not handle sealed bullets, but works fine on normal factory ammo that doesn't have the tar around the bullet and inside the neck (despite what they claim in their advertising). Forster also has a collet die, which I have never used, but looks to be similar to all the other types.
