From what can gather-the RCBS bullet puller is a better choice than the kinetic type bullet puller-but since I have a 9,3x57-I'm not sure if the collet is available for that caliber-anybody know?

This is what you want. Caliber - .35-.38

be careful with the collets as some of them need to be polished on the inside really well so they don'y mark the bullets.

good idea-I'm loading soft Privipartizans-I seem to remember someone said toothpaste was actually a good polishing compound if you didn't have the real stuff.

Toothpaste works well as a polishing compound...it's full of tiny bits of cleaning agents that are abbrasive..which is why they tell you not to use toothpaste on the smooth surface of dentures.

For what it's worth, I've used both the RCBS and Hornady collet bullet pullers and the Horandy is the better, faster and easiest to use of the two by far. IIRC, I got mine at Higginsons.

Totally agree.

I just started using the collet type (Hornady from Higginson's like the guy above) and I'm going to get the collets for all my calibers now soon. The things are a lot faster and cleaner than using the hammer type.

I have had success using the standard 375 collet to pull the 9,3s. One thing I did find with the RCBS is be careful the die is not threaded too deep so the threads are not supported by the press frame. Mine had developed a bunch of hairline cracks before I realized what was going on.
If I wasn't already set up I would be looking at the Hornady die these guys mentioned.

who's got the best deal on the Hornady cam lock puller and collet, and whats the average price?[I went to the Higginson site-and it just redirected me to the Hornady site]

For the amount of pulling I need to do the rcbs hammer is cheap and effective.

Now if you are pulling a 100 rounds I would come to hate it.

Hear you on that one -- couple years ago, Pulled three hundred rds. of old military "lacquered in " .45 's ---" Hated " it --- but the RCBS Hammer still works ! --- Loved that ! :)

if all else fails..
why not just take die out of press, insert brass in holder, pop it up,grab bullet with pliers, then just lift handle:D..
works like a charm every time;)

I like my Frankford Arsenal one just fine. It'll probably break sooner than an RCBS, but on the upside, it comes with three universal-type collets that fit all calibres.

I too am looking for one. I phoned the local store here and the guy assured me that the Hammer left the bullets reuseable and the RCBS collet puller for your press allows you to remove the bullets but was not designed to leave them intact so you could reuse them .
I questioned him on this several times but he still said the same thing I didnt feel like i should tell him i was on the RCBS website .
Why are there so many folks that are clueless that work in firearms/hunting stores.

I'd always heard the same thing though... Any device that actually requires grabbing onto the bullet and pulling it will damage it.
If adjusted properly, the Hornady collet puller leaves bullets with no dents at all. Usually the biggest marking comes from the brass casings scratching the sides of the bullet. They do work very well!

The hammer type I used had a nasty habit of deforming the tips, but that only lasted till the hammer itself broke into several pcs.

I have both a collet type puller and a hammer type.Yes the bullet tips get deformed in the hammer type , but I just put a small piece of foam in the end where the bullet and powder is trapped and that put an end to deformed tips. Also my hammer type came with instructions that state DO NOT STRIKE METAL when using or it will cause it to shatter.I have hit a block of wood as hard as I could many times in the last 20 yrs and it is still as good as new!!!! Oh ya both type of pullers are RCBS , I just had a friend make up a bunch of collets for the collet type and they work just fine !!!
