I have been trying to figure out why relatively mild loads in in my old 96 swed. show high pressure in my 98 6.5x55 .Checking the available space for bullet foreword seating ,it is considerable. Can seating the bullet out further reduce the pressure any meaningful amount? Thanks

Sounds like a head space issue with your 98. I would have it checked out.

Seating the bullet out further will reduce pressure, but not significantly, until the bullet starts to "jam", then there will be a significant spike in pressure.

The 6.5 is notorious for building pressures because of the long bearing surface. I have had a rifle blow the primer badly with a START load.

All you have discovered is that your two rifles are different and one uses less powder than the other. Each rifle is unique, and especially so in 6.5.
