I'm just new to reloading rifle ammo this year, and have found a very accurate load for my 7mm-08 with 140 gr Sierra Game Kings(tangent ogive) seated 0.010 off the lands.
I have some 140 and 168 gr Bergers(secant ogive) to try.
My questions:
1- In any given rifle, do different loads with the same bullet type( tangent or secant ogive) tend to shoot best at the SAME distance off the lands, or can they be anywhere?
2- Do people find any similarities in seating depth between the 2 types of bullets?

I have found my over all length seems to wind up being around the same with each load. 2.800" why?? not sure just where it seems to wind up.

As for question one. They seem to be everywhere for me. I had one hell of a time with Hornady SST's profile. Wound up they didn't shoot worth beans anyway I tried to load them. Just kept trying different bullets with your powder and eventually you will find your sweet spot. Bullets may even vary from batch to batch within the same bullet.

The VLD (Secant) bullets generally like a .015-.020 Jam into the lands.

The BT (Tangent) bullets are a little more tolerant of seating depth. I have shot the BT's both jammed and jumped with great success.
