Trying some new bullets in the target rifle ( .308) usually use 168 hornadays, or 175 SMK's, and everything works really good. Thought i would try some 175 berger VLD's, now this is what i'am wondering what a good starting OAL would be? because the ogive of the bullet is so far back its way of the lands compared to my other loads. Usually around 2.815 , made a dummy at 2.925 and its still not touching? ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Your charts should give you a max OAL. As long as you keep it consistant and don't succeed it, there are no problems. Once I find the OCW, then I will go back and fine tune my OAL.

Having that said, I seat a blackened bullet ( black from a lighter) into an un-charged trimmed case and load into the rifle to find my Lands measurement.
