Hey guys newbie here again with a question about seating bullets. According to my manual to check riffle seat I used a fire casing not resized color a bullet put it in the case with a flat on it and chamber repeat till you get an average. I'm reloading 300 win mag it gives me a riffle seat of 3.573 and my book says max oal is 3.340. This is a huge difference and I'm wondering if I should seat to max oal or .020 short of Lans.

well, the magazine length is usually 3.34 so you really can't go longer than that unless you want to shoot in single shot mode, which would be ok at the range. I would seat them 3.34 for hunting.

It will depend on your magazine. A Remington 700 (for instance) mag will easily swallow your cartridges seated to the lands. If you are hampered with a short box, then seat them about .020-.030 shorter than mag box for a little wiggle room for function.
