bullet selection for deer in thick brush

Supercub, what I ment by short heavy bullets vs long heavy bullets is a different caliber IE: 200 grain 44 does not need to spin as fast as a 200 grain 30 caliber as it is shorter and needs less spin to stabilize it. I'm not a scientist, I just concluded that if my shotgun slug goes pretty much straight through grass and leaves etc. with little deflection and my rifle doesn't the fact that one has high rpm's and the other doesn't might be the reason. If that was true I would expect faster spinning bullets to deflect more easily and it seems that is the case, (see above). There could be other conclussions that fit too, I'm interested..
 
Since the OP was ONLY TALKING ABOUT .308 why bother extolling the virtues of other calibres?

I recall an article in Guns & Ammo a while back about whether "brush bullets" existed or not. Anyway, to make a long story short; they don't exist.
 
Anyone ever tested or seen shooting tests through brush with a .50 sabot slug out of a rifled barrel 12 gauge?

Of course not shooting through anything between you and the target is best, but will the heavy slugs do much better than regular rifle bullets?

They MIGHT...but why chance it? Like my previous post stated...a 250 grain 50 cal muzzleloader bullet at 1800 fps deflected wildly and all it hit was a tiny branch less than 1/4 inch thick....
 
To add to the growing consensus - Brush-busting bullets are a myth. Barnes has an article on its site based on the experiments it did - you have to search for in in the From the Lab or Newsletter archives section.
