Went to cycle my rifle to check if the action/extractor is working and now the whole cartridge/bullet is stuck!!!!

Is there an easy and safe way to get it out?

Thanks

d.

First of all what rifle are we dealing with?
Semi? Bolt? ETC?

Make and model might help as well.
DO you live somewhere safe to discharge the firearm? (not saying you should do that ... yet)

First off, can you open the bolt? Is the cartidge stuck in the chamber, while the bolt is open? If so, take the action out of the stock, remove the bolt. Place the action in a garbage can with the barrel pointed in a safe direction. Spray a liberal amount of oil in the barrel and allow it to sit for awhile (this may seep into the cartridge case, but I doubt it). Use a wooden dowel in the barrel, and tap gently. This may remove the stuck cartridge.
Good luck.

It sounds like you have jammed an improperly loaded reload or possibly an incorrect cartridge.

It can be considered dangerous to try and drive it out of the barrel.

Remove your bolt, lightly tap it with a rod through the muzzle, if it does not come out easily, leave the bolt at home and take the barreled action to a gunsmith.

"...take the barreled action to a gunsmith..." Who will put it in a padded vise and bash the stuck case out with a soft metal rod and a mallet.

NO, NO,NO............
Take it to a gunsmith who has a stuck case remover. It is an extractor that fits completely around the rim of the case, and a sliding ram on a bar takes it out. Hammering on the bullet only swages the case in harder, by compressing the powder.

Here is another method: make a plunger that is a snug sliding fit in the bore. Fill the barrel almost to the muzzle with oil, insert the plunger, and give it a sharp rap with a hammer. The hydraulic pressure will either force the cartridge out of the barrel, or force the bullet into the case. If this happens, the powder will be oiled and made inert. Add more oil, repeat.

Had the same problem.I seated bullets too long.I knew it wasnt double charged(checked & rechecked) so I fired it off.Went back an reseated all the buttets a lil deaper. In a bolt gun you will be ok doing this.If your not sure go to a gunsmith.
GOOD LUCK

You forget to mention with each sharp rap the oil also squirts quite forcibly out the rifling at the muzzle...... using very "heavy" oil would help reduce this... and the oil will not make the powder inert immediately and does not reach the primer...

Another "do it yourself method" is to drill and tap the muzzle and install a grease nipple and then simply pump it out with grease.

A simpler way, if it does not tap out easily is to take it to a gunsmith.

If it reqires force Do it Neil's way! otherwise you run the risk of driving the bullet into the case.(been there done that nuf said:redface: )

One method that has always worked for me is to fill the bbl 3/4 full of oil, patch the end of a dowel (wood, brass or nylon) and insert it in the muzzle until it won't go any further, either push hard on the ptotruding end add weight or give a good rap with a mallet, the hydraulic pressure will pop it right out. If it's an overlength handload, a brass rod wood or nylon dowel passed through the muzzle to come in contact with the bullet tip and given a good rap will usually remove it easily and safely with no damage to the rifle. If it's the case thats stuck the hydraulic method above will take out darn near anything and do it safely. berahunter

what kind of gun is it be carefull if it is a howa 1500 or similar if it has not been upgrated the bolt shrowd may have turned if it did don't try to close the bolt on it the firing pin is protruding this happened to me and the gun went off in my hands and the bolt handle ripped the palm of my hand wide open I only found out the next day whaat had happened and only found out about the upgrade a short time later .Take it to a smith.
