We tested a few loads in spruce..
We were cutting green spruce firewood, and one thing led to another, a 300WM shooting a 200 gr Speer GS at 2900 went 11.5 inches, a 308 Norma Mag with 200 gr partitions at 2800 went 10 inches. A 45/70 with a 500 gr cast bullet at 1860 went 17.75 inches. A 6.5x55 with a 156 gr fmj at about 2550 went through a 22 inch long block. This is fun science, it give you something real to compare, I look forward to your results, which will be much more scientific than ours were.
