Bullet Time ....well sort of...

thats about the least blur you are going to get without building an air gap flash, a strobe maxes out (or minimums out i should say) at 1/40 000 (ish)

Yes I have been reading up on this. They actually look pretty good compared to most. At my flash rate of about 1/40,000 sec the bullet moves about 1/3 of an inch. Even the air gap flash allows some movement, as show on the web. So I think I will just stay with what I have. I will try some other guns....DE50 and Czech Mate. The blurred bullets give an interesting feeling of extreme speed.

Thanks for the comments.

I'd love to see what something like a TT-33 or another pistol known for large muzzle flashes looks like with that sort of photography. Heck I'll even volunteer mine as I'm in the Okanagan too.

The DE 50 should provide the flame. The trick is to try to catch the bullet before too much fire comes out. So with the 50 I will try to get an early picture...as you can see the fire will probably overwhelm the exposure.

that looks great!... this thread has got me thinking...
If you have ever been to the National Association of Broadcasters show in Vegas (which i assume not many people here have) you will see a wide verity of high speed cameras... there are a lot of them popping up here and there for broadcast use... Vision Reasearch, Photron, Weiss and For.A just to name a few... a lot of them are industrial cameras that have found a great additional market in broadcast... I have been tempted to use up some favors and rent/borrow/barter one from a rental house and take it to the range... ideally I would like to produce a video for a manufacturer and work in some high speed work... maybe i should make some calls this summer and drag some gear out to the range...

As in most Browning style actions, the barrel and slide will recoil together for a distance before unlocking starts. Its my understanding that the actual unlocking is engineered to happen very shortly after the bullet leaves the barrel.
