Move if not in the right forum. Looking at maybe having an F/TR and a TR rifle this year. The DCRA rulebook calls for 156 grain maximum (I assume 155 grain SMK) for TR, but I don't see a bullet weight limit in F/TR, just a .308/7.62 NATO case and caliber. Is there something I'm not reading, or will loading 155s be competitive for both? Does everyone run heavier, like 168 or bigger in F/TR?

The most popular bullet weight at the last f-class world shoot was 185g in FTR.
Higher B.C. will give an advantage.
Most 165g bullets are for medium (600m) max
Target rifle shooters have been successfully shooting 155g out to 1000m for a long time.

If the goal is to build ONE rifle both disciplines and just change sights, set it up for the 155/155.5gr bullets.
If one of each, FTR at LR is pretty much a 185 and heavier game. Lots of shooters using 185gr BT and 200gr Hybrids. Some have gone heavier topping at the 230gr Berger.
When going heavy, you will likely have to commit to the chamber set up for best performance ie if you set up for the 185/200s, using the heavies is not ideal.
Throating long for the 215/230s pretty much negates the 185/200's so the barrel becomes more specialised.
With these heavies, stock layout and bipod set up becomes far more important to help control recoil and bouncing.
If you are only shooting to 600yds, then just build a 155.5 and live happily every after.

Guess I should have made that clearer. Two rifles, one for TR and the F will be a Savage F/TR in more or less factory trim on a parallel arm bipod. I think the Savages are throated for 155's already. What's the bullet of choice at 155? I see where the Palma guys (Yankee sport, I gather) standardize on a Sierra Match King 155. Is that a good starting point for both, or is there something else more 'slippery' that gets used in TR? Just getting started in the sport, so pennies a bullet for something that performs better isn't going to pay as much as plain old trigger time.

I started in FTR shooting the savage model 12 FRT and was using the 155 sierra match bullets and varget powder, shot awesome but was a little trickier out at 1000yrds.

ALL the common names in match bullets make very good palma/tr bullets.... continues to be a global sport.
Berger 155.5gr BT, Sierra 155gr (2 versions), Lapua Scenar..... Sit ontop of some Varget, match primer, prepped brass... have fun.
I have Bergers instock. Can get Sierras.
Just check the chamber on your Savage. You might find other bullets fit... assuming you have a 12 twist, up to 210gr VLD will work. Most will find the 185gr BT ideal... if you can find any

Thanks, joined last year with my father. We came out to a few, got the season schedule all set. Live right by the range, went to high school in Nokomis. Never knew much about the place before they put an ad in the local paper last year. Going to try to get serious about it. Shooting the Gov Gen last year with my 7mm mag Ruger 77 was a lesson in bigger isn't always better, and bring more zoom to the party.

Most guys I know use 155.5, 155 hybrid or the newer 155 Sierra to be competitive
I think I remember you, glad you are going to stick with it and come out this year. I only wish I lived that close to the range for practice.
If you decide you want to go with the sierra 155 Palma match I have 350 that I can sell you and would be able to bring to the range on May 2nd. I am getting rid of them as I went to the 185 Bergers to get rid of some of the wind drift

Shoot them to find out what your barrel prefers. The 155.5 is the most common now but that is not to say, your barrel prefers something else.
Nosler and Hrn can be added to the list of worth a try. You just never know.
