hi all
i'm new to H&K and i'd like to know which 9mm bullet 115/124 or 147gr shoot best & on the P30L. i shoot both factoy & reload rounds
i reload for my CZ75 & some of my rifles using both FMJ & lead (lead from the Bullet Barn)
i've just found out from our Reloading section about Zero Bullet from DoubleTap, which is good for the HK & price also great.
anyone here with experience on rounds for HK P30L, what rounds you use & their performance please chime in
thanks

I have found that mine likes hot rounds, too light and I get a lot of stovepipes. I find that titegroup, even at the max doesn't have enough jam to cycle reliably. I haven't been able to get hold of any power pistol to give it a try, but it does good with blue dot, I am just playing with loads right now, but still prefer 124's. I don't want to go lighter with the recoil spring since I like moderately hot loads anyway, but want to use one load for all my nines.

HK's are sprung for 9mm NATO spec, since 115 gr. can cause malfunctions. However, when spring breaks in it's more reliable with lighter weight bullets. I used 147 gr. for at least 500 rounds to break in the recoil spring, then it was fine with 124 gr, and most 'non wimpy' 115 gr.

I use Federal (American Eagle) factory in 124 gr with a muzzle velocity of ~1150 fps and have not had failures to fire, chamber or eject in 800+ rounds since new. Suggest you try a box of each of a variety of bullet weights and determine the right combination of what your pistol likes and what feels right to you when you fire. The P30L is a solid, offensive weapon platform and I think you will not be disappointed.

I did not need to do any break in. and have been shooting 124 reloads (light) no problem.
Never tried 115 although I am sure it will be no problem as well.

thanks guys for inputs
my other question is has anyone shot lead bullet rounds on P30?
i still have 500 125gr leads bought from the Bullet Barn, if they're bad for the Polygonal rifling i'll order some Zero bullet from DoubleTap
as you know i'm new to HK, please let me know anything that i should be aware of to keep my P30 in good shape & good shoot
thanks

Read my P30L range report, find some ammo shoot it. It doesn't care. It will burn through whatever you choose to feed it.

I wouldn't shoot lead through poly rifling, personally. I know many would though.

I have had severe leading in a glock shooting lead, so I speak from personal experience.

500 rounds of lead bullets won't do jack to a p30. or any chf poly hk barrel. 5000 on the other hand...
it's preferred you don't run lead, that being said running straight lead bullets would eventually lead to leading on ring and groove barrels as well. It just takes longer.

I'll avoid running lead thru it.
BTW, has anyone used Zero Bullet from DoubleTap? Any good/bad?
I've just order some 124gr from them
Thanks

I've tried cast 135gr bullets in my P30L. They work OK but I get tumblers every now and again, the same bullet in my Sig 226 works fantastic so it probably has to do with the poly rifling. I stick with plated 124-147gr now.

Berry's bullets (plated) are supposed to be ok too. Their website specifically says they are good for polygonal barrels. I prefer zeros (when you can get them) supply can be iffy. Lucky he just got some in so I grabbed a few k

i didn't know that, just bought 2k yesterday. i probably buy more now.
thanks

berry's bullets are ok, but cam pro are better, not only the plating is thicker but the plating covers the butt of the bullet whereas in the berry's it does not, bottom line: cam pros are like a FMJ of the plated world... Campro can be loaded to FMJ (recommended by them) and are made in Canada. I have been using cam pro for a while and I have no complaints.
What not to like?

Thanks Avenida.
Have you anyone here shot the 124/125 gr with Win231 max load (4.4 gr) on the P30L?
I personally don't like max load on my pistols, but i'll try to see how the P30 handle the load.

I've shot 115/124/147gr through the P30L and it's shot them all without any issue. I prefer the feel of 115gr though, so that's what I shot the majority of the time. Never one issue. All factory loads.

About shooting straight lead only bullets. I have run the Wolf lead round nose 135gr through my G17 which has polygonal rifling. Put a thousand rounds through it before switching back to standard FMJ 124's.

I can honestly say it felt like the gun was snapping a lot harder, much harder then these 124's felt before running the lead only bullets through them.

Lighter loads are usually snapier in 9mm so maybe it is just subjective since I was transitioning back to a lighter load (135gr down to 124) or maybe it was leading in the barrel increasing chamber pressure. Either way I didn't want to find out so I cleaned the barrel.
