Hey ammo experts,

I'm curious about the bullet weight of surplus Czech 7.62x39mm and 7.62x54mmR ammo.

From what I've gathered it's 123gr. for the 39 and 148gr. for the 54R. Can anyone confirm this?

I just searched Google for x39 weights being interested myself (and after being told that it was all 127 grain) and I found 122,123,124, 140 and 150 grains on the first page.

So I guess your experience may vary.

Just grabbed a round of Czech 7.62mm and pulled the bullet. Here's what I got for weights:

FMJBT bullet-123.3gr.
Powder, short cut, extruded-22.6gr.
Case & live primer-106.8gr.

This is from a crate manufactured in 02/1961.

Hope this helps.

Thanks fellas.

That would confirm what I read on wiki, that "Projectile weight is usually 123gr".

I also read there that 7.62x54R was originally loaded with a round-nose 210gr bullet, but "...due to experiences in the Russo-Japanese War, it was replaced in 1908 with a 148-grain spitzer FMJ bullet, which has remained standard to the present."

Still need confirmation for the surplus Czech 54R, keep'em comin' guys!

I've had some 7.62 X 54 heavy ball ammo that had a bullet more like 183 or something like that, I forget the exact weight and the ammo is gone.

Interesting. Thanks for posting this.

No problem guys. Have 5 boxes of Czech surplus no less than four feet away from the computer and had my reloading stuff out, noticed the bullet puller about five feet away and digital scale about ten inches from it.

What type of gunnut would I be if I couldn't walk two steps, combine the two, smack it on my floor a couple times to find out?

Besides, wanted to confirm myself......
