Hi all, just discovered something interesting with some ammo that i has loaded about 5 years ago. i always believed that there was value in, once you found a load that your rifle like, to load up as may bullets as you could. My aim was consistency e.g. no worrying about need for load development due to a different lot of powder or bullets etc. By doing this i would have the same load ready for years;). i ended up selling the rifle and decided to pull the ammo down for the bullets and the cases(powder went into the garden). i had loaded the ammo in both 1F cases (for sighting in/practice) and virgin brass(for the actual hunt). All the brass was Remington nickel plated and all of the bullets were moly coated. here is what i found:

In the 1f brass i had prepped it by sizing and used walnut media to clean it. as i have found by cleaning it this way there is still carbon? inside the case. as i cleaned the case after sizing the was no lube left in the case neck. these bullets were very hard to pul, i use an ribs collet puller and it was really hardtop get them out, to the point i would have to smack the handle of the press to get them started. one round was so tight in there that i had to use my kinetic puller and it was amazing how many times i had to crank on it to get that bullet out (at least 30 times).

the virgin brass had been prepped by sizing as well, then washed to get the case lube out of the neck. pulled these bullets wight the collet puller and they came out easy as poop out of a goose.

i have no idea why the bullets bonded so tightly to the 1f cases and not to the virgin, but it scares the crap out of me to think about the pressure spoke that the 1f and the really had round to take apart may have caused in the rifle.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience,

cheers

If I plan on leaving my loads sit a long time I seat them long then seat them to length when I need them, you can feel the crack of them breaking loose. If a person is fussy about neck tension its the right thing to do.
