Hello All,
I have no experience with a Desert Eagle in 357Mag, but do in a Python. From what I have heard due to the gas system jacketed bullets are recommended. However, where do plated bullets and to a lesser extent powder coated bullets stack up? Yes, no or a maybe.

Thank you all.

I haven't run cast or PC'ed through a Desert Eagle but I have run them through gas operated rifles. You'd have to fire quite a few cast bullets to get any appreciable amount of lead in the gas system. I put 50 cast rounds through my SKS and found an absolutely tiny amount of metallic dust in the gas port. I specifically looked for it and only found a few specs mixed in the rest of the carbon residue; not even enough to cover a pin head if you separated it. I would guess that plated or PC'ed bullets would be similar but replace minuscule amounts of lead dust with minuscule amounts of copper or plastic dust.

If a gas port is shaving hard cast lead bullets, it'll probably be shaving copper off of jacketed bullets too. I believe it's mostly softer lead bullets that can cause issues in gas-operated firearms.

I shoot Berry's plated bullets in my Desert Eagle, they have thicker plating and are made for the 50 AE. Budget Shooters sells them.

From their web site:

500 S&W/50 AE (.500) 300gr RS - 500ct
Our 300gr RS does not have a cannelure.
Can handle velocities up to 2,000 feet per second.

I shoot 44 mag 240 grain campros which have thicker plating and are rated for higher velocities than Berrys in the same caliber. As listed on the Berrys site they recommend loads under 1240 fps except for special bullets with thicker plating such as .500 and the 45-70 and the 9mm.

With my desert eagle I can get by with 23 grains of h110 which is shooting a little over 1300. Zygote if you live near Edmonton shoot me a PM

I was shooting 240 grain plated with H110 in my 44mag DE. It cycled everything from mid book load up to max and I never had problems with the gas port. Don't shoot cast through a DE.

+1 for berry plated. I use them in my 44mag DE no matter problemo. One thing you've u may find low to mid loads don't cyclentoo well with the DE. I usually load close-ish to max on my 44 and it cycles fine.
