Hi Gang,

My wife and I are new to IPSC and have been looking around for somewhere to buy a bunch of bullets for my 9mm. I see several different brands at wildly varying prices... About $150 / 1000 for Winchesters through Wholesale Sports, but I can get BDX, Berry's or Campros for SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper - like about $95 - $110 / 1000.

I was just wondering how these brands compared to each other relative to price and quality and if anyone could point me in the direction of a reputable supplier who isn't going to tell me something is on backorder for two months. We have our first match in just a couple weeks!

Many thanks! :)

I hope you did not want any 45 from BDX because I bought out all his 45 yesterday. he had 4500 but I would have bought 10k if he had them.

we shoot alot of Campro in Quebec.

From my experience, Campro has the thickest plating on the plated bullets market, and the weight is fairly consistent altough generally under what it's advertised at. I have these bullets in 45, 40 and 9mm and all lots I have had were 1-2 grains under advertised, but constant.

Check out Jo brook who is a dealer on this site. He was selling 9mm 124 gr. Berrys for $79 and these are fine in my guns.

Of the ones you list I would use BDX, even if they are a bit more. CamPro's would be my second choice. I haven't shot Berry's so I can't make a comment there.

Maybe use CamPro's for practice ammo and use the BDX for matches if they are more expensive. Not sure if you can get Zero's but they are a good bullet too and usually cheaper then CamPro's and a much better bullet.

I shoot (and I'm sponsored by) Campro. That said, I prefer their bullets and was purchasing them before I was sponsored. I've gone through about 70,000 in the 13 months and have maybe 10 or 15 rejects sitting downstairs. I got that many from Montanna Gold previously and from Speer too. in my opinion keeping Canadian businesses in business is good for us. the next time their is a run on bullets in the USA, we will get short shipped again. Campro makes a great bullet for a competitive price.

+1 on Canpro to Rob's comments.

Last year; in a bunch of tests I ran, Canpro shot noticably better groups than BDX in my 40 STI Apeiro at 50 yards. Their 124gr hollow points also shot better groups out of my 4.15" BBL racegun than the BDX.
BDX 45ACP 230s shot better 50 yard groups out of my 6" STI Targetmaster than Montana Golds  & Canpros

BDX is a good product and I expected it to be good; based on price and the fact it is jacketed, but I'm shocked at how good Canpro is for a plated bullet...

I don't think you'll be disappointed by either brand.

I would suggest BDX (although I am biased),..which is a FMJ and Canadian made...all the profiles and bullets work well (Open, production, standard). **the .40-180gr bullet is the choice of our current Canadian National Standard division champion Mike Burrell**. Kurt's quality control is outstanding.

Another Canadian maker is Campro, ..that would be my 3rd choice. They make a good plated 147gr with the newer design. I used some loaded 147gr last year for a short time with no complaints.

My 2nd choice would be Speer plated...they are the best plated going. Same bullets used in their target ammo. Very accurate out of my tanfoglio's; but good luck getting some. Speer ships when they feel like it.

Another option would be Berry's bullets. Not bad and the price is good. It will not group like BDX/Campro/Speer, but works and great for practice.

cam-pro

for me , i shot cam-pro from the start of my IPSC life
always a great product and made right here , next to Quebec city

i shot 2 years with my 9mm major ---never had a problem with the 124 gr
it was shooting 1 1/2 in group at 25 yards easily

shot standard 2 years with either the 155 or 180 gr never had a problem

shot production for 3 years with the 124 and never had a problem

cam-pro support all of our big match and league
and they support shooters too ....

from what i've seen with berry's in the past they seem to be poor quality
i've seen jacket separate from lead, key hole in plenty

I hope for next MIC Frank will stock up on CamPro :)
I use Frontier now for practice and Zero for match, they are big league bullets with big price :) outstanding quality.

In Fort McMurray. Has anyone had any experience with the Campro pellets?

I shoot .40 for my Standard guns and yes, I have used Campro

Also used Berry's and Frontier. I haven't had a problem with any of them.

For BDX, Walter Hornby sells them to us IPSC shooters, he's usually at every match but unfortunately won't be at our match up here (I'm MD) at the end of this month. Walter can also get in Campro, but they take a while.

For Berry's, Ed and Colleen Piper from Brooks area run The Bullet Shop. They have an ad with prices on the IPSC AB website under the "Commercial or Dealer Advertising" section. I just got 1000 Berry's 200gr .40 to try from them this last weekend when I was in Brooks for the qualifier match there. Colleen may come up for our match, but she wasn't sure when I talked to her over the weekend.

Best part about using those folks is that they support IPSC in general, and you don't have to pay shipping if you meet up with them at a match. I'm typically buying 5k at a time from them, and getting that much lead shipped is cost prohibitive.

Shoot me a PM if you want some more info .............
